Post subject:  Serious concerns about my Dealer's character?

I so drop by my delaer today (The Boat House in Topeka, KS) to check on the status of my swim platform. Chris the parts guy is more than happy to give me an update so I look around for a while. At that time I run into Max my sales guy and one hell of a guy at that.

THIS IS THE PART THAT CONCERNS ME.

I ask him about a guy named Mike that owns a 230 and is part of the ifourwinns message board.

My dealer (the guy I trust to fix my boat and sell me new ones) says, "Oh Mike, he's a great guy and boy he's really smart."

Even after telling him it's a different Mike he still insisted upon the "smart" part. How am I suppose to trust this guy?

Any advice?

Yeah. I can see how you'd be concerned. 8)

That's why I have two rules....
1) Don't trust ANYBODY
2) Don't leave any evidence

Case in point... my salesman is no longer a FW dealer  . Any questions?

I don't see that you should be concerned about your Dealer's character. Now your salesperson's judgement is another matter.

Now, before this turns into a Dean Martin roast, I should say that when I asked about this guy named Marc who bought a new 180 from him last fall, he said, "Oh Marc, he's a great guy and boy he's really smart."

So NOW what can we conclude?

Conclusion: Mike & Marc are both great guys and really smart

Or, most guys seem really smart to Max.

if it wasn't for Mike and Marc, Max wouldn't have a job.

Or

if it was up to Mike and Marc, Max wouldn't have a job...

You see, I go back to my serious concern.

Well, yeah, wasn't that expected as soon as he wrote "salesman"?

Whoa Whoa Whoa now, how do you think some of us afford boats. Ole Max was a good salesman, and also recognizes the best person to sell to is another salesman. I knew all the lines he was using but when it came down to it I bought a Four Winns not a Bayliner. Now don't you think he did a good job.

Now, side note, this does not take away from the fact he referred to both of us as smart!!! Or a nice guy - especially when he calls me that!

You know on another note I ordered my swim platform a week ago and the parts guy told me for $20 extra the factory would ship it out. I've been in there every other day and still don't know if it's been shipped. You would think they would be tired of seeing me. Apparently the FW factory isn't the best at returning calls to their dealers.

I wouldn't assume that. From experience, my dealer (Village Marina at LOTO) made it appear this way until I got on the phone with FW myself. FW gave me all the info I wanted and advised that our dealer hadn't contacted them more than once or twice (although the dealer had assured me they'd talked multiple times per week).

We found out long after the fact that our salesman was lazy and worthless, and was later dismissed for those reasons. I'm not saying your salesman or other contact is lazy or worthless, just that I think a lot of the people in Michigan after the help they provided me when I got in direct contact with them.
