I am in the market for a handheld GPS and would love some recommendations. I boat on Sacandaga Lake in Upstate NY (a reservoir and the water level change). I have not found any detailed GPS maps with my lake. Due to the shallow water at the end of the boating season I would like to plot courses on a handheld unit. Plus I would also like a unit that has details about marinas gas.. because we take the boat out of the lake down the Hudson river for a few days.

Specifying a handheld will put some constraints on how much you can do with it. I have a Garmin eTrex Vista Cx that I dearly love, but whether it can show the level of detail you need, I'm not sure to be honest. You might give Garmin a call and ask them. Or, give Darrell a call at http://www.tvnav.com and ask him. He's one of the best and most reputable Garmin dealers in the country and knows the products very well.

I also don't believe that you will find a hand held with the detail you are after. I have a garmin GPS III + and the street pilot C330. I have also used the etrex models as well.
I to am looking for a GPS for the boat that has data for inland lakes, what I have found that I like so far is the garmin 535s. But it is not a hand held unit.
