Yesterday at 7:28pm our new first mate arrived:

8 1/2 pounds, 21" long. We've named him William Louis, his grandfather's first names.

With luck he'll be out on the 348 in about 3 weeks, if not sooner!

All this time I thought you were old enough to be my dad! Congrats! Since you guys will be tied up with the baby I can take the 348 out so it doesn't feel neglected if ya want :)

A baby BOY! Congratulations! I wanted one of those but... hopefully she'll stay a Daddy's helper for many years yet! Make sure and tell your wife that she did a good job and congratulations from the Millhaven Crew.

Ahhh, congrats to you and the admiral Bill. By far the best upgrade posted yet - that I know of (same for anyone else that may have posted new arrivals in the past that I missed). :D
Good times ahead for all - pretty chamed life for him to grow up on a 348.
Cherish every moment, every bedtime story, every household chore you do together and invest in the biggest memory cards you can get with a removable USB hard drive to BRING HOME (STORE OFFSITE) once a month to archive.
I had a good scare last weekend when a forest fire broke out and my area was evacuated. My boy was safe but I could't get into the area and retrive my removable drives. Could have lost all my pics from the most significant days of my life.
Man, 9 years doesn't seem like as long a time as it should be . . .

Yep, I wasn't lucky enough to grow up with a boat in our family. Closest we came was the neighbor at the shore house with an old Chris Craft runabout in a boat house. I still want that setup. We'd definitely trade out the 348 for a runabout in a boat house should we ever buy a place on the water. But for the next 5 years we plan to enjoy the heck out of the 348. My feeling is we can have a screaming baby at home, or we can have a screaming baby on the boat. The screaming baby part is the fixed part of the equation. Now, finding a place to change and stash dirty diapers, that's going to be a challenge...

I got a sweet deal on a Canon HF100 hi-def camcorder. Around $650 from B&H Photo, back in April. It takes astoundingly sharp videos. But they're HUGE disk files. That and transcoding them from hi-def to DVD, iPhone or web resolution takes a whole BUNCH of CPU power. Meanwhile I'm stocking up on 16gb SD cards. It's soooo nice being able to just pop out a card and use a USB reader in the PC instead of fiddling with having the camcorder tethered. The HF100 has no memory of it's own, which is a good thing, since transferring direct from cards is about 3 times faster than through the camera itself.

Aw, bummer to hear about losing the photos. I've got a fireproof box that's about to get upgraded to something larger. You're right about off-site. That's what grandparents are for, right?

The one thing I've heard, again and again, from friends is how quickly they grow up. I'm sure it'll seem too fast for us too.
