Post subject:  Marina Security Suggestions

I dock at a small marina with no security, gates, or cameras. Recently, twice someone has loosened/removed my docklines resulting in damage to my boat. I've notified the marina, and moving marinas is not an option this time of year in my area as they are all full with waiting lists.

I thought about getting a Ring camera and mounting it on one of the pilings on my dock - there is reliable wifi there. Is this too paranoid?

Wondering what the forums suggestions are?

We pay a little extra at our private beach assn for security, and it is very safe. I would add the ring camera and see what you get from it. If I saw consistent tampering going on well, I'm not saying what I'd do but you have to make a decision then.

That's very annoying that someone is messing with your boat. People are very inconsiderate.

Only suggestion I have is make the lines to specific length with 2 eyes so you can go cleat to cleat. This way the only thing they can do is detach them. Which may be worse. I donno. That would be a tough call.

The ring camera is definitely a good idea. Put it in an inconspicuous place so they don't throw it in the water. You can use that as evidence if something does go wrong.

I have a Ring camera in my cockpit, it works well. It gives you motion alerts so you know exactly when something's up.

Here is a suggestion. Try this :

DocksLocks Anti-Theft Weatherproof Coiled Security Cable with Resettable Combination Lock (5', 10', 15', 20' or 25')

https://www.amazon.com/DocksLocks-Anti- ... XCVVZN4318

I would loop it through the center rear cleat on my boat and then wrap around the dock post (one with space underneath) and connect it and lock it. Works OK...need the long one or one that fits the distance from the center aft of the boat to the dock and back. Amazon is always returnable.
