Well, this isn't boat related but given that many I/O's have the same system, I figured I'd put it out there anyway.

This happened to me tonight on my truck... apparently it happens from being overtight(?) but it has been on for 2 years without a problem. In a boat, it could have been disaster. In the truck, I just pulled into the driveway and shut it off.

In case there is any mystery, it's the hose clamp for the big coolant hose:

Yes excellent point, it's also a good idea, to pull up the inspection cover for the gas tank and check the fill hose clamps and the ones for the vent hose as well. I bet those don't get checked too often, out of sight out of mind!

Pretty clearly that hose clamp was not SS. I'd guess not OEM either. So this could also serve as a reminder to make certain any replacement items on the boat are SS.

Hose clamp was SS and was not OEM, done by me a few years ago.

I'm not sure I've ever seen one that wasn't stainless. But, they can have weak spots like anything else.

I was just going by the pic. To my eye it looks like there's significant rust 'bubbles' indicating plated clamps. Must be either cheap Tiawan stuff peddled as SS, or a misleading pic.

I think you are seeing water/coolant droplets that were still on it when I took the picture.
