Hello all, I'm new to the forum, but have been a FW owner for nearly 5 years. I currently own a 2004 FW 240 Horizon and have been interested in upgrading to the SL series since the first release of the 262 last year. However, I'm not sure the cost would justify only a slight increase in size/length. I spoke with a marketing rep a the FW factory about 6 months ago, and was told the 28' version of the SL was "in engineering". He could not give me an expected release date. Has anyone heard anything further on when the SL 282 will be released? Will it be spring 09, or Fall 09 as a 2010 model? And are the definitely going to make a 28' version? Or will it stop at the 262...

Thanks!

I have also heard of a 282 with twin engines. Something like a 310.

probably a 2010 model. Maybe a spring release? Just in time for late spring boat shows?

You will want to wait on a mid year boat for the next full model year. They'll usually tweak a little of this/that based on feedback of early owners.

It'll be a HOT boat though. WOW.

The hope is the SL282 will be ready for the Miami show in February.

Welcome Aboard!

We are all anxiously awaiting the SL282! I hope that the current economic situation does not put it on the back burner though. Many here either love or hate the SL series so there will be much debate once the "big one" hits the scene.

Thanks for the feedback guys. In the next few weeks, I'm going to go test drive the 262 my dealer has and see if i can discern any differences in handling between it and my current Horizon. My dealer told me a few months ago that FW was stopping at the 262, likely because he's trying to push me into the 262. So, at a minimum, I'll wait till next spring/summer to see what comes out. I suspect it will be tough to fit two engines into the 282, considering it will be a 26' boat plus the platform. However, if so, it would be a beast.

Look for the 282 to be a bit wider beam, twin engine. More of a Horizon 310 option.

The 282 is DEFINITELY in the works. It's not on the back burner.

On a side note - 262's are booking up through spring already on the Production line - not sure if that affects your decision.

The 282 will most likely not be a "normal" trailerable boat. Think oversize load.

If what you guys say is true, this will be exactly what I've been waiting for, wider beam, option for twin engine, etc. I'm not looking for a trailer-able boat as I have a 35' boat house + lift in my backyard, to which my 240 doesn't fill out too well. But all of this scares me if its going to rival the cost of a 310.

Hopefully they offer some more color options with the 282 than what they do with the other SLs.

Cheers.

I believe FW is still planning to introduce SL282 in early 2009…. I saw a 2009 SL 262 few weeks ago and I am convinced my next boat would likely be a SL..... You all know I just got a 08 H260 and it is a Perfect Boat for us for time being…. 26’ is a right length for me since it is still very maneuverable in tight turns and have fun with skiing, wakeboarding and tubing.
I would not consider H310 but I would love to see how SL282 would come out… I also believe Horizon will be redesigned by 2011 (current body is around since 2004) and I have to see how the development of SL would influence Horizon for next design… That might be a time for next boat for us…. That if I can wait for that long...

very close friend will have one. I'll probably have to "keep the battery charged" a few times next summer.

Expect the SL282 to be north of 100K MSRP. Normal for that size of a bowrider these days.
Not sure about color options, and I suspect they will keep the color options they currently have in the SL line.

I thinkt he 282 will have a retail list north of 140k when options are added in. Just build out a 310 with some options and see how fast that thing adds up.

It won't be a cheap bowrider by any means, but you'll be the baddest bully on the block with that thing.

The SL 262 with the good options currently stickers at 101k. The 282 will be significantly higher than that, especially if it has twins.
