So - The new 318 has the C80 nav from the factory. I'm looking at navigation cards for it - and Navionics seems to be the winner. For my area, they have both a gold and a Platinum card. Obviously - it looks like the Platinum has better detail for my area than the gold card. However, on their "Compatible Plotters" chart -- it looks like every feature is available for the E80, but only "most" features are compatible with the C80. Does anyone know which ones are supported vs what I lose on the C80 with the Platinum card? I'm guessing this would apply over lots of geographical areas -- so I thought I'd start here. Help? |

As I'm sure you've discovered through your research, there's really no good information on the specific differences out there. I would encourage you to email Raymarine through their website. They have good customer service and have always been responsive to my info requests. Since you may not hear back right away because of the holidays, try posting your question in the electronics forum at thehulltruth.com. There's a lot of collective knowledge on these things there. |

Call Todd Carver @ Portland Marine Electronics (503) 922-3259 ask for Todd Carver (owner) he sells tons of these and the chips if anyone can tell you the difference he can. |

I don't think there's anything different on the charts that's not limited by the device abilities. That is, the C-series can't do 3D bottom charting so it won't be on that chip. But it's a largely useless feature, really, so why bother? If there's something else about the E-series you genuinely need let THAT be your guide, not the chart content. This from a guy that spent money to upgrade from a C-80 to an E-80. Had weather been an option for the C-series at that time I might not have bothered with the E upgrade. |

Thanks for the info guys. It does appear the only thing I won't really get is the 3d charting. I know I could drop to the gold charts and probably be fine, but I'll probaby stick with this one in case I do move to the E series -- and also -- this one seems to be better focused on my general boating area. |
