Now that the snow is melting my attention is turning to a few boat projects. I am thinking of installing a set of underwater LED’s but am not comfortable in cutting two 2-1/2 diameter holes below the water line. After doing a little research I found two of interest one by “Briter Innovations” and the other by "Dr. LED". The major differences that I could see is this:
“Briter Innovations” $329 per light, 450 Lumens, requires a spacer to bring the cable above the water line. The cable exits the rear in this model to give you two mounting options.
“Dr. LED": $159 per light, 400 “plus” Lumens and requires no spacer because it is designed to have the cable enter the boat above the water line.

Has anyone used either product? Is there any thing I should be aware of that I may have missed?
Thanks

here are two links:

No I have not heard of those. Have you seen the tab mounts I put on last year? They work great in Mystic. The shrimpand stick fish love the light

I offer OceanLED: http://www.boaterschoice.biz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=982

Here is OceanLED's website. They make a great product. Choose Gallary and click OceanLED TV for a cool video. Real creativity with underwater lights. http://www.oceanled.com/

Colors: Blue, Green and white. There is also a 12 LED model.

I don't know about the "Dave" from Dr.LED. Does say underwater to 10 ft.
BrighterInnovations I have no info on either.

Plan on putting a couple on the transom this spring... right after Uncle Sam gets his for last year.

Cougar, $335 each and the shipping is free. also, outside of FL there is no sales tax.

Let me know, I'll need to adjust in the store for the price.

I would love to install 2 of the a12's but DAMN, those are expensive. I know, i know, compared to the other thru hull lights, they are cheap but still expensive. I was expecting a couple hundred for them, not $700.

How much brighter would the A12's be over the A6's? Would it be overkill?

When it comes to boating, is there such a thing as overkill?

Cougar:

It all depends upon what effect you are looking for. If you want a glow then I would say a couple A6s would fit the bill. They are recommended by OceanLED for boats up to 33'. Many put the A12s because they want tons of light because they are fishing and want the attraction aspect. I would suggest that you call Ocean LED and get their opinion. I haven't installed any on my boat yet so I can't provide any personal experience. As with any underwater lighting, color and turbidity of the water has a bunch to do with the end result.

If you didn't check out their website, they do have a install video where they install some A12s on a 44' Riviera. They also have some photos of a few boats.

Just found these on ebay. Not as bright as others listed here but the price is right at $129.00 / pair.
