It seems some brave souls have made the journey from the dock to my boat via the dock lines. I had this problem with my metal john boat also.... but I would just dunk that in the water. Little black non-biting suckers we in Florida call sugar ants. (Not carpenter to suggest rot) Any suggestions on how to get rid of em? I can't leave a drink on the boat for any length of time without feeding the horde.

Must be ant season, also starting to have the same suckers in my house (maybe transferred from coolers, etc). Happens every year

We use it to keep spiders off our boat and dock lines. Works great.

Had the same problem this year...little brown ants made a marching line on the dockline over to the boat

Sprayed the lines with the ortho home defense and my seawall too. Havent had a problem since.

However, in my case I had a small ant infestation in my lawn so I had to treat that too. It wasnt until after I discovered the ants on the boat I realized small ant hills popping up all over my turf. Had to treat that several times over a month period or so to get it under control.

Bottom line: check the surrounding area for infestation. Spray dock lines and fenders too - dont forget to spray the shorepower cord!!!

It's a wooden dock on a Florida lake. If it's not spiders it's ants. If it's not ants, it's aquatic midges. Those midges drive everyone nuts. They are biggggggg problem here in Central Florida with no solution.

I'll spray the dock, lines, and boat down. Nothing ruins a mood quicker then ants and spiders.

I use the home defense too. We go from spiders in the spring to dirt daubers (wasps that build mud nests in just about any crack/crevis they can find). Then the occasional ants which i hate, all it takes is one spilled soda on the dock and there is a million of them.

But the worse are the ducks that live on my lift starting about now until it gets real cold in January or so. They crap it up and are pretty annoying, but the home defense doesnt work on them lol.

If you want a really cheap effective solution, make a mixture up of borax (used a lot in washing powders etc, and real cheap to buy) plus sugar and water to make a liquid. Put a little in a couple of soda bottle caps and hide them around your boat. It attracts the ants and kills those little suckers in no time. No reason you could not put a little on your dock lines either. If you Google it you will probably find an exact recipe.

Does it work? You bet! Had a real ant problem in my car last year and just could not get rid of them all - they just kept coming back. Put a couple of these caps under my front seats and they were all gone in a day or two. Left the caps there for a few weeks, then tossed them out. Never seen an ant since.

+1 on the borax/sugar solution. I used some small jar caps, screwed down to the deck to keep them in place. Worked well. But be mindful of anyone's dog being on the dock. And likewise find out where they're coming from on the nearby shore.

I sprayed the dock/boat down with home defense, let's see how that works
