Post subject:  Need help locating what I need

I am considering installing/having a gas grill on my 2009 SL 262. I thought about ordering the boat with the swim platform rail but didn't because there is no place to store it when not in use. I can put a mount on the starboard side of the boat (rod holder type mount) right behind the spotter seat which would be ok. However, I have this overriding feeling that I should get the whole setup out of the way and utilize the huge swim platform. What I would like is a single stainless steel pole mount and pole that could be inserted into a receptacle on the swimplatform and be able to attach a grill to somehow. A single pole is easier to remove and stow versus a rail system. Has anyone done this?? Where would I look to get the parts??

I am currently looking for places to use my grill in my 260. Is the ski pylon an option on the SL? One of my ideas is to get the ski pylon (something I would use anyway) then get somone to make a pole or the like to fit into the ski pylon receptacle.

Springfield makes a decent grill with pedestal mount. Dissassembles easily and all can be stowed away in a duffle bag.

There is no ski pylon on the sl262...but I want something along that idea for the swim platform for the grill.

Those look ok but I was leaning toward stainless steel and probably infrared. I thought at some point I saw someone who put a mount in the swimplatform that accomodated a pole and had a grill on it.

Those links have me thinking. I have the magma Catalina grill.

In my cruiser I just mounted it to the bow rail. The bottom surface of the grill is flat. I could just mount it to a flat surface(starboard or the like) and put a pedestal mount to that and just attach it to my table mount in the bow.

I saw that too but the base mount for that is not a standard pedestal base. Would you put that on your swim platform? I have the mat on mine so I don't think that will work as the base doesn't look to be flush mounted.

I have thought of this many times and it is hard to find something to retrofit that will look nice. You could use a large table mount or two on the swimplatform itself and then have a BBQ mount on pole and a table on the other. I think you definitely want the BBQ secured to the mount system as opposed to a table where it can slide off should a wake come along.

The above came from http://www.pontoonstuff.com

the only issue I see with this setup is a trip hazard. But I do like the concept. Can you lift up your platform mat and insatll these below so you would just have the center hole to deal with?

Or I was thinking of buying two of these. I like these because of the cover but the pipe you would require is non standard so everything above would have to be custom. Plus I would think you would want to cut these down to only about 3" deep so they would be hidden behind your swimplatform's lip and this would require somebody to weld the stainless bottom back in so the pole doesn't slide right through.

See CougarCruiser's BBQ thread for my recommendation on an excellent BBQ.

Cooking out on the swimplatform is the ideal place. It keeps the grease off the upholstery, keeps the heat away from the people and heaven forbid you have an issue with the BBQ catching fire  Well you get my idea....

SL what about this?

http://www.magmaproducts.com/Products/Marine_Products/Gas_Barbeque_2/Gourmet_Series_BBQ/Catalina/Catalina_mounts/326G/326g.html

Any large enough flat surfaces? Like starboard side near the transom walk through?

Millhaven

I could mount the grill with mounting hardware that came with the grill to the starboard. So it won't slide off. I fully agree that the swim platform would be the best place for a multitude of reasons. I am going to keep looking for swim platform mounts as well. Your link might have some promise.

Sorry for the Hijack SL

Since I don't fit the category of "loud or opinionated" I can add to this thread. The Springfield mounts and pedestal can be bought seperately and added to the grill of your choice. You can go infrared, stainless, molybdenum, or what ever metal you chose for the grill you prefer.
The trip hazard issue with less than 1/8" raised and rounded edges to the mount, would not seem to be a problem. I think you can buy the mounts and poles at Cabela's or Bass Pro Shops.

Good Luck in your search.

I do not think the trip hazard is a problem either. I would mount the pedestal base on the swim platform on the port side (opposite side of the ladder and walk thru. Also, I think I would cut a circle out of the platform mat (which is pretty thick) and that would make the base close to flush with the mat. I can't see that getting in the way of anything. But I still want to see various mounts and poles...Cap'n...do you have links of the pedestals that will work with various grills?

They are in the links above, but here is a more specific link.
http://www.springfieldgrp.com/products. ... incat=.htm

My thoughts were to mount the aluminum plug in flat side base to the bottom of whatever grill you chose, then mount the plug in round base to the swim platform, add the plug in post of your choice and there you go.

I think we all have the right idea, we just need to get it implemented so it works for each of our boats. Cap'n-- I like those plug in mounts better than the original I posted since they have that "bushing" inside which will eliminate the "toe in hole" fear I had.

You don't want to have you BBQ in the bow. Splattering grease, overflowing grease etc... get it out of everyones way and put it on the swimplatform, this way you can sit your food and yourself on the sunpad while you BBQ and there is still room for activity to be going on by the ladder.

Last year we set our BBQ up on the "entertainment center" and nearly had a friends kid egt burned plus I did spill grease when I went to put it away. BTW, I store mine under the back seat where my water tank used to be and aI put a sheet of the oil absorbing material below it s if any grease does run out it absorbs it.

It would look something like this......

If you go to the Chap website, and look at the 350 Signature, there is a picture of this set up on the swim platform with the boat underway.
