I don't know if there is some unwritten rule (or written for that matter!) that would make posting the amount people pay for boats inappropriate or not but I was wondering if creating a database like that is possible. I don't think I'd like to be able to attribute a purchase price with a specific forum member's name but I wonder if there is a way to log and make available what people are paying for certain models with certain options etc. Like our own mini-bluebook. I find that trying to get market price on a 3-4 year old boat nearly impossible with numbers all over the place on boattrader. For example the boat I'm looking at is listed anywhere from $79k to $129k!! Same options!

Any thoughts? I don't trust nada for boats nearly like I do edmunds or carsdirect for cars.

I would love it as a buyer and hate it as a seller. :D

I'm with leftlane on that. I'm sure everyone would either love it or hate it. And I know what you mean Cincy. I'm looking at '03 and up 258 and 268's, and pricing is all over the place as well. As for selling my boat, asking prices are all in the same ballpark.

it's the holy grail for buyers.

I know guys on the Harley forums that would love that!

Think of the pissing and moaning dealers would do. WOW.

My 2 cents

If you participate in the forum with meaningfull posts and insights and have built a reputation around here, I'm pretty sure an IM to a fellow board member will get you the information you want. I would hate for this place to become a clearing house for boat prices and random folks who will be in and out looking for a quick hit. This is a pretty decent (and growing) forum. As the FW name grows and more FW owners find us, the database will be built on its own.

Now, who has the best price on a 310?

As a buyer, it would be a great resource for negotiating anything from boats to also cars and motorcycles. Being able to identify the dealer or location where the deal was found would help to determine which areas of the country tend to bargain more.

If you're trying to sell the boat on your own, it may not be the best, but you could also have an accurate idea of what your boat is currently selling for.

The difficulty I see is having the database populated and getting people to honestly submit entries with no way to verify the actual purchase price. Over time, you would either end up with a really valuable resource for buyers, or too many false entries to filter through to get an accurate pricing model.
