Ok so I started working on the one thing I had to repair on the boat. The spedometer pick up was broke. When I took the old one off it seemed like there was a glue or sealant on the back. What do I need to use when I put the new one back on? Also do I need to put anything in the holes as there was nothing on the screws when they came out?

I would use some sealant/adhesive if you reuse the screw holes. If you don't reuse the holes' just fill them with silicone or another sealant'

As for the glue on the back of the mount? If there are no holes into the hull to seal off' you shouldn't need anything special'

You want to seal any hole that goes into the transom to keep water out of the plywood core, you can use Boatlife Caulk for below the water line or even 3M 4200 which is an adhesive/sealant. 5200 is overkill and hard to remove. If you are removing the screws to replace the speedo pick up, it's a good idea to try to inject some thinned epoxy into the holes, let it cure and then when you replace the screws, coat them with sealant, and screw then in most of the way but not fully. Then let the sealant set up (a day or 2) and screw them in the rest of the way. That prevents all of the sealant being squeezed out of the holes which often happens if you screw em down all the way with it just out of the tube.

Thanks guys. Lou that is what I needed to here. I will let it set up. Cougar on the back it had a sealant adhesive as well as being screwed in. I am using the same holes so I will do it as instructed. Just wanted to make sure I keep all of the water out.
