I know many of you have heard of this but they have some room for registration but you only have till this Friday.

I highly recommend that you guys join firecadet and myself at this awesome event. I have done it once before and it's a blast. There are typically about 80-100 other boats. You really get to see a neat side of Chicago that you don't see from the street.

That looks like a lot of fun. Keep up updated on how it goes. It could be something we do next year.

or

Maybe it's time for a Four Winns trip like this?

The Chicagoland Four Winns dealer does the same thing but its not an "event" as much as this is. People come from all over to do this. Don has done a great job organizing it and its a great chance to meet boaters from all over. This is probably the best event of the season.

I did this the first 3 or 4 years they let in non-Crownline boats. I think our first year was year two when there were only about 15 boats. It was fun back then. Just got too big for me. The last two years we went the weather was cold. Even in our cruiser we did not have all that much fun.

Two things kind of ruined it for me. First, I hate boating on a river. If the only boating I could do is on a river...I am not owning a boat. This is the majority of the trip. Second, my wife and I used to take our boat through downtown a few times a summer...so nothing new for us to see.

Maybe in a few years when our kids get older we will give it a shot again. Hope you guys have a good time. Don is a good guy and does a nice job.

I just look at it as a great way to kick off the boating season.

You guys are a bunch of wieners. When it comes to boating, weather is irrelevant. Especially since I make payments in December when its sitting in a barn.

This is something on my bucket list. When I checked earlier in the year I didn't think it would happen. Maybe next year when I have some hours on my boat.

by the way, in that pic I posted above, that's the bow of a boat sticking up out of the Calumet River. The locals said it was from the year before. Also, watch out for flotsam. I just missed a railroad tie floating in the Calumet outside the lock a mile or so.

If someone organizes this, and gives enough notice, I will hook up the boat and tow it 10 hours to be there with you guys! The wife and I have this on our to do list already and would be better if we could meet up with some folks down there!

I'd be interested on how this cruise would be in a smaller ride? April is out since I still need to replace my impeller and it may be a little cool in a bowrider.

A summer cruise would be cool, going with a (smaller) group of people that know how to navigate the river would also help those of us that haven't done it before.

Since it's a couple hour drive for me, do you need to be at the launch at the crack of dawn?

If you look under the atendees details, you can what kind of boats are doing the event. You will see that a vast majority of them are runabouts and open bows. It can be a little chilly but not aweful. The rivers can be trickey with that many boat wakes but its manageable if you know how to handle your boat.
