Surely this has been discussed before....

Whats in your boat bag/box? What are your required necessity items that stay on the boat? Stuff like first aid kit, tools, etc...

Since its spring time, I am going through my bag and actually moving to a couple of those orange Plano brand dry boxes for my stuff. Just wondering what sorts of items you keep on the boat at all times? What do you store your stuff in?

I have 3 dry boxes on my boat:

1 - Tools: Various size hose clamps, small hammer, SAE and Metric wrenches and socket set, duct tape, electrical tape, electrical connectors, wire cutters, pliers, crescent wrench, regular and phillips screw drivers, vise grips, zip ties, extra rope (dock line length) and a couple small pieces of 6 gauge wire.

2 - First Aid: Marine type first aid kit, baby wipes, bug spray, suntan lotion, suntan oil, hand soap.

3 - Misc: Lake map, lighter, paper towels, matches, knife, wine/bottle opener, air pump for water toys.

So, there is my list. Take what you think you need, add what you think I need. I like to be prepared, if not for myself, but for another stranded boater.

Only thing I carry is flares, spare fuses, flash light, pliers, screw drivers ( one of each), electrical tape, extra KEY, small first aid kit. I think thats it, but might be more. Can't remember as its my emergency bag and don't look in it very often. Mine is all in a old tool bag I had laying around. I should get something waterproof though. Wet flares probably don't work to good. LOL. Just remembered a few things. Bottle opener, sun tan lotion, 3 million candle power spot light for finding launch at night, air pump for water toys, football, garbage bags, emergency collapsable paddle, spare lighter for the cigars, and plenty of coozies. Probably more to, but can't remember it all.

For some reason I never put a spare key in the boat, keep one in the console of the truck, but 15 miles from land (or the boat ramp), that won't do me much good. I can see hiding one somewhere on the boat would make real good sense if, lord knows what, happens to the one on the floaty key ring. Good call!

Spare key hidden is manatory when you have little ones with you!! Did I mention he is only 17 months and got one heck of an arm!

Tool Box - assorted wrenches, sockets, drivers, spare bulbs, wire, zip ties, bilge plug, ect....
First aid kit - only medical stuff - water resistant canvas bag.
Boat Box - Maps, manuals, paperwork, semi water tight plastic box.
Prop wrenches
Assortment of hardware in a small tackle box.

Dust buster
spot light
Hat with LED clip on light!
Cell phone, hand held radio, chargers - just in case the marine radio gives out.
range of sunblocks in there own plastic tote, you know one of them is going to explode and make a mess.
Grill - got to have a burger or dog to wash down the beer!
Extra anchor - to throw off the back! (smaller than the main anchor)
3' mickey mouse fishing pole - easy to store

I am sure I am missing tons

That's a great list.

You left off spare impeller and fuel filter. Either of which failing can leave you stuck out on the water, yet both are cheap and relatively quick and easy to replace.

Along with the right tools, checked ahead of time, to replace them. Nothing's more aggravating that having the all the right parts but discovering you need a deep well socket (or whatever) to get at that one crucial bolt...

I have the impeller in there. It's the one I took out when I summerized my boat. It only has 40 hours on it and in great shape. Every season I will rotate out my "take off" impeller.

You may be on to something with the deep sockets. I also need to get some fuses and a prop wrench I suppose. Putting a spare key somewhere also makes perfect sense.
