I've got a 1995 Freedom 170 with OMC 4.3GL/Volvo SX. All the rubber parts on the boat are original. I'm thinking that this fall I'd like anything that involves a seal between the inside of the boat and the lake to be replaced for peace of mind. Of course I know about all the engine hoses. What I am curious about is how many and where are all the rubber parts that seal the drive to the boat? I know about the u-joint cover that the driveshaft goes through... how many others are there? All advice appreciated, this isn't something I know much about but I'd like to learn. |

I recommend that you go get a service manual and study that. There are too many 'rubber' part for me to guess how many. Goto your local dealer, have them pull up schematic/parts list and start ordering. I pulled the outdrive on our boat last spring and started replacing items that needed it. The bill runs up very fast, I did not replace everything, only what I deemed necessary, and I will keep an I on the hoses that did not get replaced (ones on the motor itself). |

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't concerned so much with an exact count of every rubber part on the boat, I was just wondering how many significant seals there were, i.e. around the entire stern drive, the drive shaft, there must be one for the steering linkage, that sort of a general idea. |
