In Connecticut we do pay it at the marina; however, you may file with the state for reimbursement. You need all your receipts and there is also a minimum amount of fuel that needs to be purchased over a calendar year.

Kansas is similar and doesn't matter where the fuel was bought. If you can document that it wasn't used on-road, you can file for a refund of the taxes paid.

No chance in the UK; now ca $1.45+ a litre, most of that tax! I figure that as I'm paying so much tax for non road use I don't feel at all guilty about the effect on the so called global warming, the government can sort out the so called global warming with their ill gotten gains! (instead, of couse, that money goes towards such useful projects as a $3 million bicycle bridge that 20 people a day use, with a 2 lane road reduced to 1 lane for 9 months while it was being built; an extra 30 miinutes each day each way for the people using that road daily.

The honest answer is that I haven't burned enough fuel in the boat to justify pursuing it. However, according to http://www.ksrevenue.org/faqs-motorfuel.htm:

Quote:
Can I get a refund of motor fuel excise tax on fuel used in a boat?

A refund may be obtained if fuel is purchased from a registered distributor or retailer in the last 12 months and the claim is for $25.00 or more.

I suspect the process involves completing one of these:

http://www.ksrevenue.org/pdf/forms/mf54 ... 9ebadaf105

But I'd start at http://www.ksrevenue.org if you want to check it out.

we didnt pay any tax on our fuel at the marina over the last few years. We have been buying gas and transporting it to the boat on and off as well. For the gas we buy on land we can get our over the road tax back, but then pay sales tax on the fuel used. we would have gotten 25 cents per gallon back, then paid about 24 cents in sales tax back. it wasnt worth it at all.

Here in Oz no such luck, full price, and it doesn't matter if it goes in your lawn mower or the car.

Here in Va you pay road tax at the marina but you can file to get it back. No such luck in MD. BUT, they do have a 3 percent personal property tax here
