OK getting close to fireworks time. This will be my first test of my independence as a newbie boater on the big lake here in Chicago. Weather forecast looks good. Any tips for puttering around and watching the show? I am not interested in going to a really crowded spot. Can you still see the show from farther out? Do you usually anchor or move around? Thanks for the tips and hope to see you out there.

Sorry I didn't see this post earlier. Hope you had a good time. They shoot the fireworks off from Monroe harbor, we typically go just south of Navy Pier outside the break wall. You can go inside the break wall or further south but it gets crowded. I just idle outside the break wall and occasionally spin to face the show. This years show was the worst I've seen in awhile. They were supposed to start at 9:30 so I left my slip at 8:45. The fireworks started at 8:53 even before we got out of Belmont harbor. They were done by 9:15, I couldn't believe how short the show was. It wasn't any longer/better then the normal Wednesday/Saturday shows off of Navy Pier.

I will try to post photos soon, but we had a good time. First time seeing the fireworks from the boat so if they were not as good as in the past it was news to me. We were behind the break wall in Moroe Harbor. The lock was pretty crowded, but all in all a fun time. Will post pictures soon.

P.S. The admiral now knows she needs to take some dramamine before we idle in other boat's wakes!

Hey, I finally posted some pix in the thread for the 4th of July -- almost as hard as getting in and out of my slip!
