Anybody going this weekend? I took Saturday off just for the event. I am working on assembling a good sized group to raft with on another forum and wanted to extend the same warm welcome here of course.

It's at Hidden Cove Marina which is on the east side of the lake. Basically a huge raftup with some vendors and a band. They have 100 boats registered, but you don't have to be registered to attend. It's from noon to 5 on Saturday. I talked to the event coordinator yesterday and he thinks being there by 11 will get you a good spot.

I attended Aquapalooza by us this year and it had to be ther crapoest day on record weather wise. About 60 and cloudy in middle of July!! Normally there are a few hundred boats there and this year it was me a Malibu and about 40 26+ FT cruisers.

I imagine that there are going to be several nicked props this weekend out there. If someone is not familiar with that cove, they will probably hit a tree. Surprised they picked that cove. I'm going to be on the lake, but will have the kids. Probably cruise by to check it out, and then anchor in another cove.

We will have to pass. Wife doesn't like Lewisville lake. Too many accidents.

Stop watching the news. Lewisville Lake does have more accidents than most lakes in Texas. Take a look though....95% of them are people who "think" they can swim and die trying to make it to or from the beach. The other 3% are people who dont watch their kids at the various parks. That leaves the 2% that VERY RARELY are actual boating accidents.

TXVista - I have been all over that cove...never had any trouble. We use Hidden Cove as our home ramp, and this is our 3rd season over there.

Troy,
Nauti Luv is 100% correct. There are very few boating accidents on Lewisville. The deaths that occur on the lake are mainly drowings due to people swimming off the shore and going out to far (unfortunely children).

Nauti Luv,
If you know that cove you are fine, but still be cautious. I have been a tenant Cottonwood for 6 years now, and since we are (were) the closet marina to hidden cove, boats are always being towed in from hidden cove because they hit a submerged structure. We have been fortunate over the last three years that the elevation has not difered to much from normal. Currently, the lake is just about to hit 2 ft below conservation level. Once we get to 4 ft low, you will start to see stumps that you never knew were there. Some stumps are sitting 1-2 ft below the surface right now. I used to boat at hidden cove in the early 90's (used to camp out there) and still cautious when I go in there. I try not to venture in there much now. Back in 2006 when the lake was almost 11 ft low, it looked like a forest. Even before 2006 when the lake level was consistently 4-8 feet low, it was very wooded. It is not always inside the cove, but getting in and out which can be an issue, especially just south of the cove on the eastern shoreline. From what I heard, the new marina is going to have some issues with luring some of the larger boats from pier 121 to move up there because of this issue unless they mark the channel. My point was that since aquapalooza is going to be there, there will be boaters that never ventured in there before and not familiar with it. They may be observant going in, but not so much later in the evening when they leave.

With that being said, what time are you going to get out there?

I am assembling a group of people at 10:30 just NE of the cut from Pier 121. We will be starting to tie up at 11:00 at the event. Feel free to join us....you will see several boats with black 6% flags that look like this:

For those not familiar with this lake, or Hidden Cove, I have spent some time making this google map.

I have to say, I really thought it would be a much bigger party than it was. I think we has about 15 boats combined from our Lake Pirates group. I didnt see anybody from here at the event.

Here are some pics we took on the way to and at the tie up.

Great pics. Haven't done much boating this summer because of work. Thankful I still have my job though. I want to venture north to those lakes. I live near Lake Houston. Lewisville is one along with Canyon.

Very nice pics! We spent the morning and early afternoon wakeboarding on EM. Had a good time but had to get home and put the kid in bed. He doesn't do to well when he doesn't get a long nap. But thanks for posting up the pics!
