how far is the trip from Miami to Nassua? Is it possible to do in a 180 Horizon? |

The weather would have to be absolutely perfect, you would need several days set aside if the weather got bad, and I would not want to be in that boat on those waters if the weather turned nasty. It's about 160 to 180 nautical miles, you would surely need extra tanks of gas. Are you trying to get in the Guiness book of World Records.

Sure it is possible. Back in the 80s...my dad and I crossed Lake Michigan and back in a 180 Horizon. Now if you ask my dad...he will say "that was stupid...fun...but really, really stupid. The water was almost dead flat that day. Have never seen a day all the way across the lake since then. |

Ok, so I have been doing some research and its only 50 or so miles from Miami to Bimini. Looks like people make the cruise quite a bit. |

Yes can be done in a couple of hours. Do not cross alone and just take the right precautions. When are u planning on doing it? |

Not sure I'd try this one in my boat, or Lake Michigan for that matter. But you'll probably want to have all the prerequisite safety gear and a GPS to make sure you stay on course. Is 32 gallons enough for a 100 mile trek? |

Which is why checking the weather and carrying a sat phone and vhf radio plus gps should be mandatory. Didn't those guys forget to check the weather in the gulf? I was in at Disney World in Feb/March when all this went down. A really nasty cold front moved through about the time these guys headed out. |

Kinda new to this site. Trip to Nassau is not too far but you'll be crossing the gulfstream, which is just too unpredictable. Weather report always finishes with "higher in the gulfstream" We have a 278 Vista and we won't cross alone. We usually take a trip towards the Keys through the ICW (stay in the channels). It's nice to know TowBoat US is always available. In the Bahamas, you're on your own. On the water we don't take unnecessary chances with our 5 year old on board. |
