We'll be taking our anniversary cruise in a couple weeks.

Last year we planned on Narragansett Bay & Block Island, but heavy weather was coming up the coast so we went north up to Casco Bay (Maine), in order to get a couple days lead on the weather.

This year, we are looking at the Narragansett Bay (Rhode Island) area again ..... or ....... Buzzard's Bay (Lower Mass., west of Cape), to include going down through Wood's Hole and out to Martha's Vinyard and back up and through the Cape Cod Canal and along the inside of the Cape's coast.

Any input, hot spots, things "you just gotta see", things you better stay away from, etc .... that y'all can come up with?

Note: We are not your typical dock party types. If we had a gen, we would be on a mooring or at anchor, but we will need power for heat and other stuff. Soooo .... we don't especially need to know where the biggest raft-ups or dock parties are, but nice marina ammenities would be good to know.

Thanks!

Hi,

Have you thought about venturing into CT? Mystic in the fall is awesome. If you stay at Mystic Seaport's docks, you have the run of the place after hours. It is like being back in the 1800's and the folliage is nice too!

Also, Essex, CT up the CT river is a must see in the fall, along with Hamburg Cove. Perhaps one of the best anchorages on all of LI Sound and a fantastic hurricane hole.

The nice things about these destinations is that if the weather kicks up, you are relatively protected and there are many things to do on shore.

As far as Narragansett Bay, check out Wickford and Bristol...nice towns for boaters.

Block island is incredible, but weather can get dicey in the fall.

I think the ride over to the vineyard sounds like fun. We were over there this summer and I commented how much fun that would be. The canal is always a great ride. I have some restaurant advice if you go over.

I will be watching for your report.

Take care Bill

Great input .....

I'd love to do some of the CT coast and Mystic, in particular, but we don't want to either tow or run that far for this trip (gas $$).

Any personal input on the canal, Bill? Do you have to be as aware of wind and tide/current as many point out? If we run this area, I'll hit you up for specific points of interest/resturants. Although we'll be mostly on the boat, we'll likely have at least one "dinner" on shore.

Gordon,
It has been quite a while since I was on the canal in a boat. I fact I bet it was 30 years. The last time was in my 13.5 foot whaler.

Let me know when you are ready for the some MV advice.

Take care Bill
