New to boating I have a chance to purchase a 2000 230lt 5.7dual propvp with 460 hrs. runs fine good interiorbut has blistering on bottom owner said he bought it 2 yrs ago that way small blisters about the size of a dime...about a hundred spots asking 15, should I consider or walk away.and set sail for another vessel? Thanks in advance to all!!! |

Blistering of the hull has been dealt with by another member on the board. I believe he spent about $6K having his hull bottom repaired! Regardless of the mechanical and interior condition I would think that unless you can buy that boat for less than $10K I would look elsewhere. You may have to spend more but won't have the hassles of dealing with the hull repair. I also have to wonder why it blistered? Is it due to sitting in the water without bottom paint for long periods or faulty gel coat? If you could buy the boat real cheap I would have the bottom epoxy painted to prevent this from happening in the non repaired areas. You need to assess what a simlar good condition boat sells for and get some estimates for the hull repair and see where all the figures work out. Don't be too hasty right now there are lots of deals. If you look within a 6 hour drive from your home location you would be amazed at the deals out there. Right now people are knocking 2K off their asking prices because they would rather have the boat sold then pay that same $2K for storage and winterization and then maybe will have to knock even more off in the spring to get rid of their boat. |

As has been said, the boat will need to be discounted in accordance for the repairs. Get an estimate from a yard for the cost, then factor that in to your offer. I would be very suprised if the repair cost was over $1500.00. |

I just did a bottom job on a 1980 Chris Craft that never has been out of the water. It has well over a thousand blister a few the size of softballs. Its not hard to pop them and grind them out and resin them back solid. We just had to bottom paint the cruiser you will have to have it epoxy sprayed. Transom  The BLue Man Group!!
