How many hours did you rack up this summer (short summer)?

32 hours here.

Estimated about 50 (based on oil condition, no hour meter), we ended up running more because the weather simply wasn't nice enough to anchor and hang out. At least gas was 1/2 the price of '08.

Up to 2006, about 50 -60 per summer. 2007 about 25. 2009, 2nd year in a row, less than 10; we're seriously questioning now if it's worth having a boat in the UK!

I have 35 hrs on the engine this year. Not the best summer up here in Ontario, Canada. All of our long weekends we had excellent weather.

I think I did pretty well. Picked up the boat Father's Day weekend with 5.9 hours on it. Pulled it out today with 60.8. That includes two weeks that our system was closed due to flooding....

45 minutes on just one of the engines so far. Break in and tune on it in the drive way.

40 which is totally lame considering the costs this year. $1700 for a slip and trailer storage, $400+ in gas, $1000 in insurance, maintenance and upkeep. So about $75/hour not including depreciation of about $5000. Factor that in and its $200/hour. Ouch! Somewhat worth it when doing 50+ on a hot sunny day or pulling the kids on a tube and hearing the screams of fun. Still an expensive toy though.

Using similar math, we used it for 25 hours for $6500 (!!) slip and lift rental, $500 insurance, $6000 in payments (now paid for in full), $600 in gas, and probably $8k in depreciation. $864 an hour - now I'm really depressed! I could rent a ski boat every weekend and still come out way ahead. I'm an idiot.

BTW - we've already cancelled our marina spot and moved to dry storage. That marina cost is so ridiculous it makes me want to puke. The math for the next year will look better - $2000 for storage, $500 for insurance, maybe $500 gas and another $500 for maintenance - amd we damn sure better use it more than 25 hours.

Probably only 25 hours on the engines during this summer, but about 3 to 4 times that anchored out. With 4 impatient young kids, we no longer cruise the long distances to eat at the restaurants and such. All we do now is cruise a short distance to our favorite cove and stay there all day. The engines needed a break though given they each have around 880 hours. I used to put about 200 on a year before the kids showed up.

Yes, boating is very expensive and I agree with you that there is no better way to spend quality time with the entire family than on a boat. Think about it, how many guys do you see on the golf course with their wife and kids? Now that is a waste of money and those guys will regret their selfishness.

We ran about 70 hours in our first year with the 268 Vista. Not bad considering June was a complete washout in CT

54 hours on the boat and at least 100 hours anchored and about 2000 miles on the trailer so far this year. However, were not done yet. We have a trip on the CA delta planned for next weekend (weather permitting)
