Looking for some info on boating in St. Louis. MO. as I may end up moving there in the near future.

What is boating like in the St. Louis area. I'm used to boating on some fairly large lakes 40,000 acres, so wondered what is available in St. Louis.

Thanks

Some of the best boating in the country is in MO, but not right near St. Louis. Lake of the Ozarks is a couple hours away, and Table Rock is a couple more. Both are 40-50,000 acre lakes.

What kind of boating are you looking for? Do you want something within an hour? Do you want somewhere with tons of bars/partying and a "Party Cove"? Do you want to take long rides? Play in the water? Watersports? Scenery? Water cleanliness/clarity? Is how crowded the lake is important to you?

230Mike is right, but there are lots of choices based on your needs as well. If you need something to do besides the boating, LOTO and TableRock are the way to go. If you want a party type atmosphere, definitely LOTO. If you want more true boating and enjoyment of the scenery, definitely Table Rock. If you need something within an hour, there are some options close to STL but the acreage is MUCH smaller. There is a lake called Carlyle (sp?) in Illinois that is relatively close to STL as well.

Uhm, hello... Dare I re-visit boating on the Mo (or Miss) river?? Between Columbia Mo. and St Louis I'm told is some of the most scenic stretch of river on the Missouri.

Thanks, this has been helpful. We currently hang out and swim, tube, ski. Lakes we are on now, don't have much scenery but are good for water sports.

As far as crowded, I have boated in the NE (NJ), FL, GA and other places, so that is relative. Some think GA is crowded, but not compared to NJ.

Don't know exactly where we might live, just somewhere in St. Louis area.

Thanks

Mark Twain Lake is just NW of St. Louis.

We spend 1-2 weeks each summer on Bulls Shoals lake in Arkansas - one of my favorite spots

The area just west / north of Alton Illinois is some of the nicest boating on the Mississippi river. Beautiful areas to play, visit, and just hang out. When looking for places to live, check out St. Charles county. Not far from MANY marinas to keep your boat or launch from.
