Found this report on the overall powerboat market. It is written from a Diesel engine industry point of view but has a good overall view of the boat market. http://www.powerproductsmarketing.com/reports-articles/articles/north-american-diesel-powerboat-market-perspective |

Data is for 2007 and 2008. While good to know, the diesel market represents less than 30% of total powerboat sales domestically. So it's good information for that small segment. As you know, the diesel market is huge in Europe and the Far East, maybe someday here. Thanks for the link. Some Domestic September info: Quote: Fiberglass boats in the popular 14- to 30-foot market saw significant improvement in preliminary numbers for September. Unusually high registration volume from California in September helped push the national decline below 20 percent, to a dip of 16.5 percent.
Aluminum boats sales fell in the month by 25.8 percent. This drop seemed extreme compared to the lower declines posted in the fiberglass market. The rate of decline for PWC increased compared to last month, posting a drop of 21.1 percent in September. These statistics include 28 early reporting states that represent approximately 64 percent of the national market. Retail sales for new boats in September appeared in scattered pockets across the country. Liquidations and aggressive pricing have made the registration feedback appear erratic in early reporting states as dealers scramble to improve liquidity before moving into the fourth quarter. |

If anyone is really interested in 2008 data, you can read through this Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract for 2008. Published by NMMA. A good indicator of what is really happening in the industry. The 2009 report will be much worse, but nonetheless interesting. http://www.nmma.org/facts/boatingstats/ ... stract.pdf The 2008 US boat registration report is good and offers insight on the state of the industry at the start of the recession. http://www.nmma.org/news/news.asp?id=17722&sid=3 An excerpt from above registration report: Quote: Using data for new powerboat registrations compiled by Statistical Surveys, Inc., NMMA estimates there were 270,500 new (model year 2008) powerboats registered by U.S. states during the year. Approximately 400,000 powerboats were retired from the recreational boating fleet in 2008.
