Guys, its going to be one hell of a long winter. I am so depressed....havent been on the water in basically 2 months and its killing me. In Texas, we have till about April or real early May before we kick off the boating season.

I think I am going to sit in the boat and drink beer in the garage tomorrow on my day off. Anyone want to join, lol.

This is the time of year I REALLY wish I had a cruiser.

I'm right there with you. I had a beer in the boat Sunday while I was winterizing. I am counting on an exciting year of UK basketball and reading ifourwinns to get me through the next 5 months.

By the way, I appreciate everyone's winterizing input. I hope I'm all set. She is just stting in my garage now in the assumed position of hook me up and take me to water.

Last time I was on my boat when it was in the water was August of last year. I have "seen" it three times since. Towing it to winter storage 10/08, towing to summer storage 5/09 and towing to winter storage 9/09. How is THAT for depressing???

Steve - get out on the lake! It's 75 all week here - go for a quick buzz around Lewisville and kill some time - maybe that will make you feel better. Did you already winterize?

FWIW - I don't think I've been out on the water since August either - time seems to just get away from me. Now that I've paid the boat off and moved to cheaper dry storage, I'm not nearly as stressed about the cost of not using it. :)

I've thought about it. Problem is wife and kids are inherently cold, so getting out would be a short painful trip. I'm not winterized yet.

His twins were born this spring, and him and his wife have plenty to do with 3 kids in the house under 2 years of age.

Back to topic...... No depression here. Boat is in heated storage, and I don't miss it one bit.When the weather warms up in 5 months, then I will start thinking about the boat.

How's this for depressing? Winterized and covered the boat last weekend. Getting laid off on 12/4, so I will have way too much time to stare at the boat sitting next to the house! I'm getting six months of severence pay, so that will probably make the winter fly by as I count the weeks until it runs out (always a bright side)! The goal is to find a job soon and double dip, but CT is bleeding jobs and companies. Hmmm...would the wife entertain moving to the caribbean and starting a charter biz??? Now there's an idea!!!

Capn is right...we had our twins on May 1st. With a toddler already running around it would have drove us crazy to try and use the boat. So we decided for both our sanity...not using the boat this summer would be the best decision. Next summer she will be back in the water.

I know the feeling, I will be winterizing :evil: here in Missouri on the 23rd of November and hopefully will be unwinterizing in March. Oh well plenty of Winter projects at the house to get done, so when the weather breaks< we can get on the water. :D

The deed's finally done for me. "Fall service" has been a 3 week endurance contest for me because:

1. The only decent place I know of to get a Volvo worked on around here now is an hour away
2. We combined the fall service with getting the trailer bunks replaced - and the place I'm having do my work now is buried this time of year due to all the other dealers going out of business
3. And we combined the fall service with moving our storage unit from close to home, to close to our day lake (an hour away).

The storage move has been a huge job. Not only do we keep the boat there but a lot of camping stuff, household goods, bikes, etc. So it's taken 3 trips over there (one of them with a 6'x12' trailer completely full) plus all the cleaning of the new place, cleaning out of the old place, putting up lights at the new place, making it a home away from home, etc.

The new bunks turned out great. It's a job I've been contemplating for a year and a half. I had them replace the 2x4's with 2x6's, all stainless hardware, and black carpet (the original was gray). All four bunks are longer now, with the two outboard bunks carried further forward to the next frame cross member (they had to fabricate, weld, and paint new stanchions) and all 4 extending about 4" further aft - so the transom is now totally supported and we've got some margin of error for that not-quite-perfect loading that happens to everyone now and then.

I've now replaced every component on my trailer except the wheels (but did the tires), brakes (but did the actuator), and winch. I think I've about got it the way I want it now. :lol:

I'm not at all happy about the boat being an hour away, having become used to it being 10 minutes. Seems like it may as well be on the other side of the planet. But, having the rent jacked over 26% in four years at the old place, while maintenance and service went from fantastic to non-existent during the same period, just wasn't acceptable. And now for most of the boating we do, the total tow time will be less than 10 minutes.

If anyone is looking for a great boat repair place in the eastern third of Kansas, I can wholeheartedly recommend Lakeside Marine http://www.lakesidemarinetopeka.com/ on the west side of Topeka. This is my 2nd year having them do my maintenance and I couldn't be happier so far. The gentleman who runs the fiberglass shop is one of the most highly recommended 'glass guys in this part of the country and is someone you can trust with your boat (I don't know how to make a better recommendation than that!). He even had me run the trailer paint out to his house late one night so he'd have it in time to get the trailer done when I needed it. Last year he repaired my neighbor's pristine red '98 Four Winns that had been hit hard by a pontoon while he was taking on fuel. The boat came out perfect in every way - not the slightest clue that anything had happened.

I have been holding off doing anything to get the boat ready for winter. I am very glad I did. Today was a nice 80 degree day albeit a little bit windy.
Spent the day on the boat with some friends. Got some pictures of some really nice jet boats playing around in one of the coves.
I will post them later or in the morning.

Sat out in my garage, in the boat tonight. Damn near took a nap! Instead hooked up the battery charger and cleaned a couple of things. Winter sucks, well sucks until it snows and I get the plow on my ATV at least lol.
