Kettle or Newport?

Which do you have and why? My 268 had a kettle grill with it, and they had it mounted on the stern rail. I had it taken off before it was hauled up here, and haven't put it back on since. The rail mounts available for the kettle grills seem to be pretty weak in comparison to the mounts for the Newport or other Gourmet Series grill.

I know jsimon has his newport mounted in the same spot I had my kettle and seems to like it. Tennja just posted up his new grill set up.

Its leaving me wanting something better than I have.....

I have had both the party sized Magma Kettle and a Magma Catalina. I do agree that the Kettle mount was weak, but I did like the stove feature that it provided. We cooked many a sausage and egg breakfast on the Kettle and I don't think I could have done that on the Catalina (although I never tried). The Newport mount will be much more secure though.

I installed Magma's pole mount on the swim platform of my V268 under the swim ladder cover. I mounted my kettle grill without any issues and the setup is very sturdy. When not in use, the pole easily disconnects for storage and the mount's base is out of sight under the swim platform ladder.

+1 to that method. It's the best solution on a cruiser IMO.

That sounds like a cool setup. Any chance somebody could post pictures of that setup?

Thanks.

Thanks Cap'n - That looks awesome! Would be great if it would fit under my boats swim platform ladder - I don't like the idea of putting a grill on the back rail...

Sounds like a plan specialK. Where do you store your grill while your underway?

I might have a kettle grill up for sale pretty soon.

I considered mounting mine under the ladder cover too. But then the kids couldn't swim while on the hook and I am cooking. Just something to think about.

When I had my cruiser storage was a pain. I kept the box and kept it on the birth in the mid cabin. It was out of the way most of the time. At night when we slept I had to put it up in the cockpit. That was a pain but there is nothing like grilling on the water.

I too did not mount near swim deck to not interfere with swiming or jet skiing.

I went with rail mount off the port side, right above battery switch/cooler in cockpit.

We have the small kettle, I agree mount is not the best, but works.

What rail did you mount that on? I have a barbeque but sold my deck mount with the old boat...Not sure what rail your talking about and don't want to mount on the swimplatform to interfere with swimming.

I know not all boat came with a rail mounted here. Ignore the cable wrapped around everything, I have since rewired an outlet boat on the swimdeck for the gen set!!

That works.

Its hard to see in these pics, but here is where it was mounted with that same mount when I bought the boat.

From the looks of it, they just left it there full time, and then rotated it 90 degrees down so the grill was level and hooked up the propane and used it.

I'd kind of like to do this, on the stern rail. My gut tells me it'll be a VERY close call if it will work with the stern light.

My 248 Didn't come with a rail there. I am thinking maybe I might mount mine on the Stern seat rail. But still not to sure I have 2 small kids on board and not sure that it is the safest place for it. I have been setting it on the swim platform but again it is always in the way!
