"When times are tough, you tighten your belts," Obama said, according to a White House transcript of his appearance Tuesday at a high school in North Nashua, N.H.

"You don't go buying a boat when you can barely pay your mortgage," Obama said. "You don't blow a bunch of cash on Vegas when you're trying to save for college. You prioritize. You make tough choices."

He is absolutely right, but what has he done to help this industry other than use it as an example of wasteful spending? Like he has room to talk.

Actually, this industry is probably better off not having Obama on it's side. Just look at the Governor's races in Virginia and New Jersey and the Senate race in Massachusetts. Then, "The One" goes 0 and 4 by sucking up to the Kentucky Wildcats and they bomb. The dudes a jinx.

Well duuuuhhhhhhhhhh. Of course a lot of people did it anyway with boat, cars, houses and all kind of other things that are not "needed" and that is why the entire economy is still in the crapper.

The other problem is that there are a lot of people out there who have money but are afraid to buy the big ticket items because Obama is scaring the crap out of them with all this "tax the rich" talk. That moron is thinking about taking $0.54 on the dollar in taxes from those who make over $250k a year in income ($200k if single). This is what America gets for electing someone who has never run a lemonade stand let alone the world's largest economy (or is it the second largest now?). All I have to say is Tom Gores has some big balls to get into this industry right now given the idiot that is currently at the helm. God love him for it though.

Funny how one senatorial election can change the whole tone and complexion of things. Thank God for that. But of course, the man's true intentions are well known now, as they were for many of us long before he became president.

Don't even get me started on politics! It makes me so mad. Tired of getting taxed to death. Granted we live on the more desired side of town, but our property taxes are insane considering we can't even get the road snow plowed half the time.Guy at work lives about 3 miles from me and his taxes are $1800.00/year and mine are over $4200.00 for the same crappy service and junk roads. Our lots about equal in size, his house a tad smaller and older, but we live on the "West Side". So funny that when I look at houses on the lake and there taxes are cheaper then ours it makes you go hmmmmm? Can't wait for this economy to turn around. When we are done paying daycare (3 years or so) we will be looking to move to the lake and enjoy cheaper taxes and be on the water! How can you go wrong?

Ahhh well if you think that's bad....never move to Long Island NY....your taxes would be unheard of cheap here...our house is in a good neighborhood...North Shore Long Island...beach community...water view all year...mooring rights...but old houses...poor roads...very small properties...average house price probably between 500-600K... some down on the beach over a million....average tax bill about 7000 many are more...we live here because the taxes are 'cheap' compared to many other communities here....this is on a 68 year old 4 bedroom cape cod style house 1/4 acre property...

Here in the peoples republic of NJ, our property taxes are well over 8k a year and boat insurance along with car insurance is an additional 3.5k. It's time to move south.

I wondered when NMMA would say something. I like the comment about how the boating industry is one of the last remaining American manufacturing businesses.

NMMA calls on Obama to clarify remarks about buying boats

The National Marine Manufacturers Association has called on President Barack Obama to clarify his remarks made in Nashua, N.H. Tuesday that associated purchasing a boat with irresponsible spending.

The President made this off-the-cuff remark at a town hall event announcing his new Small Business Lending Initiative. The President has already apologized to Las Vegas for similar comments he made in the same speech.

"The recreational boating industry is one of the last remaining American manufacturing businesses and net exporters, contributing nearly $30 billion in new sales and services to our nation's economy each year, said NMMA president Thom Dammrich, in a statement.

"We don't believe the President meant any harm by his comment, but we encourage the President to join us in celebrating the U.S. recreational boating industry and to stay focused on creating conditions for a strong business environment, including his own remarks," Dammrich added.

NMMA today sent a letter to the President encouraging him to visit a boat manufacturing plant and describing the U.S. boating industry.

well, there goes the economy because of me. I just bought a boat. It is used though. In my defense it was before B.O. said not to. Oh, by the way, anyone got some money to lend me so I can pay my mortgage?

The President of the United States just pissed on one of the last American manufacturers while they are hanging on by a thread, but I agree, it is time to move on. Let's move right on to the November mid-terms so we can show this socialist President of ours what we think about his progressive, anti-American agenda.

I am as much a fan of the guy as the you are (I promise).

Let's just hope he's one & done... We're unfortunately stuck with the guy for a few more years.
