Well, it is that time of year again. I was wondering what everybody has for insurance companies. last year I had Progressive ($400 ) a year. I was looking into BoatUS.. online they quoted me $279.

Just wondering if anybody had suggestions as to where to look and more of where NOT to look.

Thanks for all the help that I know will be pouring in on this one.... ( I hope )

We have our boat with Allstate, home, auto, RV, motorcycle.

I believe its going to depend on the individual as to what insurance company to go with. Do you have a good record? Do you like service you get from agent when you need to file a claim.
There are many choices out there, some policies may be cheap, but there service when you need them may not be what you want.

I've got NBOA. I used to have State Farm. For a 190 I'd say you would be good to go with Allstate or State Farm also.

I use the same company that my home owners, auto, and motorcycle is with Farm Bureau. They BEAT anyone I checked with on price (because of their Multi-policy discount) and I've had GREAT service from them (although I haven't had to file a claim). Check with the company your homeowners policy is thru. It might be worth the call.

I use Farmers (boat is insured through Foremost, which is owned by Farmers). I have them for home, auto, boat and my life policy...so I work all the angles on discounts.

I would also encourage you to reach out to NBOA. They are an agency, not an underwriter, and have been at it for a long time with a great reputation. I've compared the policies/rates from them with others (including Boat U.S.) for each of my boats and they have always come up with the best overall package for my needs. My last underwriter was Zurich, which got out of the marine insurance business this year, so I was unexpectedly faced with shopping for a new policy. My new policy through NBOA has even better coverage than my last, a better agreed value than I would have anticipated and beat the other rates I shopped. Well worth it for their $20 'membership' fee.

Had Boat US when we had our cruiser and was happy with them. Have Progressive now with our bowrider. $500,000 of coverage, on water towing and on road towing included. Boat also qualifies to be covered under our $2M umbrella that we have through our home/vehicle insurance provider. Agreed hull, $250 deductible. Yearly premium is $140.

I have to agree with sierra. NBOA is a great company. They are very easy to talk to. We got better rates on everything also. We had Boat US before.

I switched from my homeowners provider to SeaInsure 2 years ago and saved a lot of money. SeaInsure is part of Sea Tow. If you are a sea tow member you get an additional discouint.

What you also get with BoatUS is the knowledge that you're supporting an organization that actively works for boater's rights, waterway access, boater education, etc.

Sort of off topic, but it's also timely to remind people that in addition to good boat insurance, IMO anyone who owns a boat should also have an umbrella liability policy. They're not very expensive.

Just for grins I went through the first several pages of an online quote request from NBOA, but just from the questions they were asking I know I'm not going to get the same level of agreed-value no-deductible yacht policy with the same coverages as I've got from BoatUS, and I don't want a credit check hit just to confirm that. If I were to seriously consider a change I'd have to call them on the phone.
