I am seriously considering using an in and out service this year (Barretts in Spring Lake). Does anyone have experience in doing this? What should we know? Do I need to tip the guys/gals everytime I use the boat? How do the after hours returns work? Do I need to cover my boat in the racks?

What are the "little things" I need to know to make it a positive experience, or should I just pony up and get a slip?

Going to do the same thing next summer. This summer it still would not be worth it for us with the twins being 1. Did you know Skipper Buds in GH is offering a FREE two week trial?

I will tip at the end of the season as long as my boat is well taken care of. I will always cover. Not only might there be wet boats above yours but birds are in and out of those places like crazy. I believe the "after hours" is different at every marina.

I call early for them to put it in so I don't have to see it in the air. My marina has great dock hands and they took great care of my boat last year, but I just don't want to see it riding in the forks.
As for some of your other questions, end of season tips were appreciated and covers are important in the shed because of the birds. We try to make it back to the docks before closing, but if it is after hours, we just tie up with good fenders and put the cover on. There is overnight security and a key drop. They put the boat away in the morning.
The service is great and pays for itself when compared to towing an hour each way with my lifted Dodge running 37's.
