I am not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue, but its time to get it out in the open so people know whats been going on. On 3-17-10, I made an order for 2 impeller kits, 2 fuel filters, 2 oil filters and a couple tools. These are all simple things. On 3-17-10, my credit card was charged for the full amount of the items. I was told when I made the order that the impellers were out of stock, but will arrive that Friday, or Monday at the latest. I was told I would be notified when the parts would ship, which was expected to be by Tuesday, March 23rd. One Thursday, March 25th, I called to check the status of the parts. I was told they parts did not come in, but they would be by the following day and would promptly ship. The following week, I called in due to no communication and no parts. Again, I was told the parts are on order and would ship when they arrived. Its been 3 weeks, so I decided to call in again to see what the status of the parts is. I am told the same story, that they are waiting on Volvo to get the parts to them and was told if it "didnt work", I could cancel the order. When I asked when/if/ somebody called Volvo to check the status of these parts I got danced around and just told, I could hold out or cancel, my choice. |

If you have ever dealt with Volvo parts supply chain directly, you would be sympathetic to what MPE is telling you. I have dealt with them, and do regularly, it can be agonizing to get an answer that actually proves to be true. They will eventually come through, but can and does take time. I would be patient and wait, but it's your choice. MPE is a great company, that I have dealt with several times, and they always came through. |

I dont know what the problem getting your parts is?? We are a volvo dealer and order parts daily and receive them within two days... You are not asking for uncommon items and they are things most dealers would stock by the case!! The tools depending on what they are maybe a delay but filters and impellers? come on now! Let me know if i can help |

The "tools" are the pump for the Volvo drive fluid bottles and the adapter. If you want to quote me on these items, send me a PM. |

I recently bought some Volvo parts from a UK supplier. Impellor, fuel/ oil filters, driveshaft bellows and some "O" rings. To be totally honest and totally fair, delivery was extremely quick and I am happy with the service; they arrived the next day. They also gave a discount on the Volvo Penta UK list price. However, I think it would make you US guys feel very lucky, if you saw the UK list prices, excluding tax, and even the discounted prices compared to the US ist prices! Graham |

I am having the same experience. My order for an oil filter and water pump impeller was placed on 3/21. When I called on 4/1 I was told that the parts are back ordered. Like you, my credit card has already been charged. I ended up buying locally so I could complete my spring maintenance. I have not canceled since I can still use the parts for future work. I have had good experience with MPE in the past. Using them is largely for convenience but I will think hard before going this route again. |

In my opinion it's just plain wrong of MPE to charge your card for backordered items. |

......much like it's wrong for VP to have a list price of ca $24 for a fuel filter and $21 for an oil filter in the UK! Graham |

I've dealt with Doug Russell Marine for some of my OMC parts and they have been pretty good to deal with but I feel that in some ways it's better to patronize a good local dealer/repair shop because when you need something that's hard to get or a repair they can help you when an online place really can't...even though I have not had to put my boat in the shop for the past 4 years (doing the winterizing and spring tune up etc myself) I still get most of my parts from the the local OMC shop for this reason..... |

I agree with Lou on buying local, but there isn't anyone around here who sells Volvo stuff. Doug Russell is my go-to supplier. I've bought a couple times from MPE and always received what I ordered, but I have to say it always seemed like they were a bit unorganized. Doug Russell has gone out of their way to make me happy and never failed to have what I needed in stock. I've placed one order from Winnisquam and did get the order, but it took several phone calls and follow up on my part. I've also had e-mails and PM's go unanswered. Not bashing them - I know they're great for lots of people. Just adding to the data. |

I have bought from MPE a lot and never had a problem getting anything. Got most orders a in a few days. With the FW I bought all my FW parts there and now with having the Mercury powerplant I still get everything from them except my fluids as I get them locally. Just wish Mercury would have an outlet store at there Fond Du Lac plant as its only 20 minutes away. |

For the last couple of years (not this year yet) I ordered directly from Volvo (http://www.volvopentastore.com/) because I didn't want the hassel of a middle-man. Does purchasing from a dealer give you better prices or something? For my Volvo Penta 5.0 GI the oil filter is $8.95 and fuel filter is $9.95. I do have to pay for shipping but I don't have any dealers near me. Do the dealers save you that much? |
