Ranked in order by total annual expenditures for new powerboats, motors, trailers and accessories in 2009* 1. Florida ($1.2 billion) 2. Texas ($906 million) 3. California ($417 million) 4. North Carolina ($395 million) 5. New York ($381 million) 6. Louisiana ($370 million) 7. Washington ($339 million) 8. Delaware ($330 million) 9. Michigan ($317 million) 10. Minnesota ($305 million) You can sure tell how hard Michigan was hit by the economic downturn from this. Michigan had been in the top 5 for many, many years prior to 2009. Results are a bit skewed in Florida's favor, due to the number of Mega Yachts that are built and delivered and sold from the state. |

What is interesting to me in light of this report is how poorly Four Winns is represented in the Houston Galveston area. We have a small dealer (Texas Sport Boats) in Conroe about 50 miles north of Houston. Like the name says, they sell sport boats and I have never seen a Vista on their lot. Four Winns has no dealers in the Clearlake – Kemah area (south of Houston) where competitors like Sea Ray and Chaparral are well represented. Around here most of the cruisers are Sea Rays, Bayliners, Rinkers and Chaparrals. The Vistas that you run across are used boats that are brought in from other locales. |

You can get most of this information through the NMMA website. http://www.nmma.org/ IMO, the number of boat registrations is a more relavent number than amount of new boat sales $'s. Michigan is still in the top few in that. For example. 2005 numbers..... The top 10 states for registered boats in 2005 were: 1. Florida (973,859 registered boats) 2. California (963,758 registered boats) 3. Michigan (944,138 registered boats) 4. Minnesota (853,489 registered boats) 5. Wisconsin (639,198 registered boats) 6. Texas (614,616 registered boats) 7. New York (508,536 registered boats) 8. South Carolina (416,763 registered boats) 9. Ohio (412,375 registered boats) 10. Illinois (380,865 registered boats) The top regions for boat registrations include: ■Great Lakes (IL, IN, MI, MN, OH, WI) – 3.4 million registrations ■South Atlantic (FL, GA, NC, SC) – 2.7 million registrations ■Inland (AZ, AK, CO, ID, IA, KS, KY, MO, MT, NE, NV, NM, ND, OK, SD, TN, UT, VT, WY) – 2.1 million registrations |

Florida is WAY under figured, most of the mega yatch sells are done in international waters to dodge taxes. |
