Hey everybody, I'd appreciate your input for a tough decision I'm trying to make. A coworker of mine is offering this model, with a 5.7 Volvo Penta engine (280 HP), a stainless steel prop, an upgraded Clarion stereo system, docking lights, a dual switch battery and only 30 hours of use. Here's the link: http://newbraunfels.olx.com/2007-beige-four-winns-220-horizon-for-sale-in-new-braunfels-tx-78130-iid-40766272 He's asking $33,000, with all his equipment (skis, boards, life jackets) included. What do you guys think? A good deal on a good boat? I really appreciate any help you can offer. |

Great motor package... colors are good, options are good... pretty standard stuff for a loaded up boat. Would be nice if it had duoprop, but the SX drive will let you swap props super easy to customize your needs to. SUPER low hours... Is an arch/tower a priority for you? I think the price is about spot on... I would have put it around that mark. Go for the 'friend' discount at 30k and take it away. Coincidentally, I know someone trying to sell an '06 in that price range, and it's not budging. |

Clocking lights? I'd bid 5K less than asking just because his add began with an obvious mistake which indicates he doesn't know his boat very well - I'm pretty sure the actual option is docking lights. If you are serious about the purchase (it does appear to be a very nicely optioned boat in good condition) then I'd ask to see maintenance records to see if he's followed the recommended servicing. Also ask to see if he received an extended warranty from Volvo, I believe it can be transferred. |

It is priced right for Texas, be prepared for for the bank to use NADA value for the loan amount, depending on the underwriter. NADA runs about 10% low for the Texas market. |

Thanks a lot for the help. Can anyone explain why the NADA appraisal lists the average retail value at almost $22,000? While I realize there are upgrades that can't be accounted for on NADA (i.e., after factory stereo upgrade and low hours) it still seems like a huge discrepancy. |

I am kind of in agreeance with JimR, I am not saying the co-worker is being dishonest but it looks like alot was just cut and pasted from the four winns website which would indicate that maybe he is not very knowledgeable on boats in general. Its a great looking boat but I would look for some history in regards to maintenence (as JimR says) and maybe why he is selling it (is it a repo, title issues etc.) |

NADA is a "national average" put together by bean counters up north. If you are buying a boat in Texas NADA is useless to evenyone but the bank. Dont let the ad hold you back thats just crazy. |

Actually NADA polls dealers to have them put avg. selling prices for models. If only one dealer in a region fills out a price for that model, the local price gets washed away by the national numbers. |

How long has he owned it? That boat was making the rounds on the internet in April of '09 for the same price. It hasn't gone down in a year? Insult him, throw a low ball at him. If he takes it great, if not move on. |

I think he is WAY high. 1. Call any and as many local dealer as possible and price out 2007 22' boat. 2. Hit Craigslist and ebay and find comparable models. This boat is common enough you should be able to find plenty of comparables to see if he is high or not. My $.02 is that he's about $5k too high. I will say the 220 is an AWESOME boat!!! ![]() |

Is beige the new yellow...or yellow the new beige ![]() Have the boat surveyed if I were you. If he does not know it very well, no clue how he took care of it. Good luck. |

When I was in the market earlier this year, I wouldn't even pay attention to adds like this. Kind of like I never even bother with a resume that looks like crap. First misspelling, wrong punctuation, etc, it's in the trash. I just can't imagine trying to sell someone a really expensive "toy" without making sure all my ducks are in a row and the add is perfect. Apparently, $35k isn't as important to them as the 15 minutes to proofread and correct. I might be overly anal, but this drives me nuts enough to be a deal breaker. I will admit they made one typo on the boat I bought earlier this year, but I didn't recognize it until later during the sea trial. They listed the motor as the 8.1L 375HP (Gi version), but it was really the 8.1L GXi version at 420HP. That's one 45HP typo I didn't mind. I feel like I'm 18 again as my 26' boat pulls my 260lb butt of the water on slalom with minimal work on my end. As for the price, I agree he is high. I did a quick search on boattrader.com. Granted, this boat is powered with the 5.7L, where most 22ft FW's on boattrader had the 5.0L. Also, if you don't have pfds, ropes, bumpers, watertoys, etc, already, you can easily throw another $1k or so at these items after the purchase of a boat that doesn't have this stuff already. On the negative side (from my perspective only) is the SX drive vs. the DP. All this in mind, I would think you would be able to get into this type of boat for around $30k. PS, I even proofread this post. I realize this is absurd, but that's just who I am. |
