OK, I am enjoying my second boating season in Chicago -- great air and water show. Anyhow, last year I met Joe (a forum member) for an end of the year trip down the river to Starved Rock and Heritage Harbor, which was great. This year we have explored more of the lake and even get our gas in Hammond.

The admiral and I are relative newlyweds (May 30) and a friend got us a gift card for B&Bs. We were thinking of trying to find a B&B in Michigan City, In near a marina. Same could be said for towns up to South Haven, MI (which would obviously be a longer trip). Any suggestions or ideas?

I spent a weekend in Hammond with some forum members not to long ago. Had a fantastic time. One of them is headed north to Macinaw Island in a few days on a few week cruise.

I would suggest St Joe, New Buffalo, Kenosha/Racine. You have a lot of choices within reach. We had such a great time in Hammond we may do another weekend there this year, and even considering slipping there!

Hi Zelena,

Congrats on being newlyweds! Michigan City is an ok stop with a zoo and large outlet mall within walking distance. They have some decent resturaunts including Swing Belly's and a brewery called South Shore Brewing Co.

We have stayed at New Buffalo a couple of times this year and absolutely love it! The municiple dock is in a perfect location between a beach and downtown. There's a "world famous" hamburger place called Redamaks, and our favorite stop, Oinks ice cream is right down the street. A resturaunt/pub called "Stray Dog" seems to be very popular and is in close stumbling distance to the marina.

You can't go wrong with South Haven, but I think the same can also be said for Saugatuck, and Grand Haven! Last year we hopped up the coast to Grand Haven and Saugatuck and absolutely loved both. We still talk about the Filet Minon at "Phils" , a small bar/resturaunt in Saugatuck as being the best steak we ever had!(maybe we were just really hungry) :D

Good luck on your trip wherever you decide to go, and as always don't forget to post pics of your journey!

Thanks Bliss and Firecadet:

Well now I am watching the NOAA reports. Sunday looks like it will be a beuatiful day, but after the rain blows through on Saturday the wave projections look like they will be 5 feet. Not sure I want to just be with the Admiral on our first longer trip on the lake in those type of waves. Hopefully, the forecast gets better.

Bliss, thanks for the tips. We saw that they were having a boat show in Mochigan City and decided that since it was closer it would be the first trip if we make it. We will post pics and let you know if we stumble across any good places to eat. Thanks.
