Post subject:  Is there a ritual?
When you load and unload your boat for/from an adventure; do you follow a checklist? Do you use a log? Do you look at you engine hours, calculate your distance to destination track your progress and compile data for fuel usage and range? Remind youself of maintenance issues, and inventory the contents of your floating fun? Really? I am new to boating and it seems as if this is some serious stuff.

I make a note of the hours so I can update the log book. Other than that, just make sure the drive's up before pulling out :wink: .

The chartplotter gathers most of that info. Alway note starting and ending engine hours which goes into a logbook along with genset hours.

Also, notes about where we have been, any hazards or special circumstances that occur go into the logbook fo that cruise.

Is this an American thing ?? Cant say I've noted anyone down under with a log book.

I agree Aussie, can't see the point in entering info into a logbook. It's not like it will help when selling a boat. You can see visually if the boat has been maintained, an entry that says, "we put 6 hours on the boat today" means nothing .

I just like tracking usage, not for resale purposes but for my own. And, I like having one place to look to know at what hours a certain maintenance item was done, so I don't have to go dig into the file and look for the receipt.
