Hello fellow boating buddies, I need some recommendations to take the Miss Megyn out on a spur of the moment vacation before the end of summer (09/13-09/17). I live in Clovis, NM and have only boated at Ute Reservoir and Elephant Butte Lake here in New Mexico. I would like to go somewhere that gives you that Passion For Water. I am willing to travel up to 1000 miles from here to find that special place for 3-4 days! ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE :P

Table Rock Lake, southern Missouri, 700 miles from Clovis. A complete and total change of scenery from what you're used to.

I can't disagree with Mike as I am a big fan of that area as well. The temps should still be in the mid-80 range this time of year, but you could also seem some rain. Also, you'll be few weeks ahead of seeing the trees turn, which is magnificant in that part of the world. Overall, it's a great boating destination.

That being said, I would also look at destinations out West (Lake Powell, UT, Lake Mead, AZ). I've never been boating in that part of the world, but often find myself jealous of the pictures others in that area have posted on this board. Also, my wife and I rode Route 66 on our Harley for our honeymoon (Vegas Wedding). We spent two extra days in Northern Arizona because we fell in love with the area. I would love to boat in that part of the world some day.

You've got a tough choice to make. East or West, I'll bet you can't really go wrong.

Can't disagree with any of the recommendations so far. I'd add Powell to that list as well. Don't know if that is within your 1,000 mile radius.

Thanks for the suggestions - to Table Rock we go, unless the weather dictates otherwise. If we have to make adjustments I'll head west to Lake Mead.

Probably a bit late for this recommendation. If your going to consider the Colorado river lakes, Mead is awesome and it has Vegas not too far away. But, for sure Powell is the crown jewel on the Colorado. 614 from your place to Page, Az.

If you want my 2 cents worth, that is the lake to see.

Take interstate 40 west to Flagstaff, Az. then north to Page Az.

Must see, Rainbow bridge! Indian ruins, petroglyph's, arches, amphitheaters, hiking, fishing ect... there is over 1900 miles of shore line, 95 canyons off the main channel. You can always find seclusion.

Of course someday, I hope to take our boat back east to see some of the murky waters on that half of the country. We just got back from Louisville Ky this last week, of course I had to visit marinas on the Ohio river and look at boats. Water is warm, but awfully murky.....
I guess I am too used to our clean cool mountain lakes.

In 1976 when I was 16, we spent a week at lake Powell camping on the beaches as we boated and ski'd up the lake - It is amazing. Mead doesn't compare - nothing really can. The canyons you go through are something you'll never see anywhere else and never forget. That's the impression it left on me anyways. 22 years later (1998) we spent a week at Mead on a house boat...much different - not bad, just not as magnificent.

Powell for the win. Cannot go wrong with Powell. Complete isolation if you want it. Warm water, good fishing and skiing.

Heard Navajo is good as well.
