Being in SC you would figure there would be a few boating stores. Nope, just Dealers and one store, which all jack their prices up!

I am thinking of ordering most of the stuff online, and was wondering if anyone has dealt with Overtons? They seem to have the best selection and prices, but any other companies or feed back would be great.

Thanks

The stuff is expensive anywhere you go, but Overton's and West Marine are the two "go-to" online retailers. They're both very well established and reputable. I've bought most of my stuff from Overton's (they're quite a bit cheaper), but I bought all my lines from West Marine. They have terrific quality lines and a custom rope service, handy for the custom anchor rode I needed.

For electronics try Jim at BOE:

There's also boatfix.com and defender.com, I've gotten products from both and had good success. West Marine 'has it all' but it comes at a price usually a lot higher than anyone else. I've not bought anything from overtons but when was shopping around last year their prices weren't all that great.

West Marine owns the company that makes all their line. I watch for seasonal specials and stock up when they have them for 35% off.

I generally prefer to buy locally, it really helps having a real person help if/when something's not right. BOE is local in Annapolis, but then I get stuck with state sales tax. Ah well, the price for GREAT customer service I guess.

Thanks for these other sites. I wish I had a good store to go to around here, just don't feel like going to the only store within 30 miles and paying that price. Would rather go online and get the stuff that way.

Any one want to come to SC and open a Shop with me???

For my lines, i got a great deal on braided 1/2" nylon on Ebay. If you know what you are looking for, it's a great place to save some $$$.

For electronics, I like Consumer Marine. Very competitive prices, good service and technical help.

I have had good luck getting the lowest prices on name brand items at boatfix.com. One time there was an error in a shipment and they sent me the prepaided UPS sticker within two days to send it back free of charge and exchange it for the correct item. The manufactor had put the wrong part number on the retail box so it was not even boatfix.com mistake.
