If any of you are planning on attending to see some Four Winns boats, here is what you will
see.
Quote:
We will have a 2011 Four Winns V285 and was suppose to receive a 2011 Four Winns V335 for the boat show. It will not make it in time for our move-in schedule but will probably arrive at our store during the show.

We are going to substitute a new 2009 Four Winns V358 (now called a V375) in its place.

The Newport Boat Show doesn’t lend itself for the smaller boats…we have a 2011 Four Winns H180 LE, H190, H200, H220, and a F224 in stock at our indoor showroom.

Also check out this new bottom paint. It sounds promising.
Interlux®, manufacturer of high performance yacht coatings, will feature its new Fiberglass Bottomkote® NT Antifouling at the 2010 Newport International Boat Show.
Quote:
Fiberglass Bottomkote® NT is optimized using a dual resin blend - delivering a unique, durable & fast-drying antifouling paint that offers the benefits of both hard and ablative antifouling paints. It has the durability of a traditional hard paint but with a slow polishing mechanism built-in that continuously smoothes and renews the active surface, avoiding the heavy build-up of paint. The fast dry formula allows a boat to be painted and launched in the same day.

Are you still sure you would like them to make more boats faster ?

having just had our in water show in Newport this past weekend we had a BRAND NEW V285 that the engine didn't last 45 mins and one whole side has shut down... the new Catalyst motors have some crazy things going on.

Other than the engine melt down, how was the show ? Good crowds ?

The show was good.. great weather on saturday and sunday. We had some good people come through and some customers that are now in the market to upgrade. Very Positive...

and CMorgan.... the boats problem is with an O2 sensor NOT a Four Winns problem.. SO YES MAKE THE BOATS FASTER SO I CAN SELL THEM!!!

Well, I respectfully disagree with your wording at least. The problem is with the installed O2 sensor, which happens to be in a Four Winns boat. It's not a production issue with Four Winns, but the engine is still in one of their boats. Consumers buy the boats from a dealer like yourself, they trust the manufacture of the boat, and the dealer that sold it to them to deliver a functional product for their hard earned cash.
Regardless of who made the error on a purchased component of the boat brand, it's a reflection on the boat builder. And should be considered as a problem for them to get remedied. Which I'm sure they will, but it may take some time.

Was this a Volvo or Mercruiser engine in the V285 you had at the show?

Have you ever considered becoming a dealer? The boating world needs people like you.

As seen in this thread, it seems as though corners are being cut on QA where parts are outsourced. It seems that if FW orders a motor from Mercury, they're putting it on Mercury to assure that it is functioning properly. It's likely a reflection on all three, but unfortunately, the dealer is the face to the customer and ends up having to spend time dealing with the issues.

If I were purchasing a new boat, I would be angry that my delivery was delayed, but not as much as if I were stranded on the water my first time out.

Cap'n we have a Volvo in that V285... no black motors here unless we have to have them in the little boats.

And i agree on your words.. But I would put more of the blame on Volvo or Merc for a brand new engine not running UNLESS it had something to do with the manufacturer/dealer install (like hooking up the hot water heater to the motor and running the hose across the pulleys.... not that i've seen that before...) However as someone else said.. it is the dealer who is the face and that is why we can't just kick a brand new boat out in a day... we have to check for issues like these. I tell you my father was not happy being stranded in Newport Harbor on a saturday with 15-20mph winds and no motor...

We have a customer coming tomorrow to look over the V358 we had at the show and that should be a done deal by the weekend.

And I will agree that the engine manufacturer is ultimately at fault here. Unfortunately it puts more pressure on the dealer and indirectly on Four Winns to make sure that what your customer buys, is ready to go when the time comes.
