Post subject: | Chene Anchor |
After getting my old fluke anchor stuck at Norris Lake I started looking for a new anchor. I read about the Chene anchor which claims to be 100% retrievable. Bass Pro Shops carries them in three sizes. The smallest one claims to be suitable for 16'-25' boats. I bought that one (it was the appropriate size for my 205 and they were out of the others) but thought it looked too tiny. I tried it and it held perfectly. But due to the fact that I like to overdo things, I chose to use it as a backup/stern anchor and get the bigger one for primary use once they were in stock. The largest one is rated for 31'-35' boats and is comparable in size to my old fluke. I got it the other day and am certain it would hold the boat. I have no doubt in its capabilities but the darn thing won't fit in the anchor locker! Another trip to BPS and I picked up the medium sized for 26'-30' boats. This one WILL fit in the locker and now I'm set up with two, 100% retrievable anchors! Just info for anyone that is looking or anchorless like I was. |

I've been singing the praises of the Chene anchor for 5 years. It's almost magical in the waters we boat in around here. |

I picked up a chene a while back too. Used it once and it held fine. My dad ended up having an extra fluke anchor that he gave me, so I returned the chene. They are nice as they don't require (actually specifically say) using chain. Most people with fluke anchors use too little or no chain hence why they have holding issues. Definately a great anchor, esp with the small anchor locker that some f/w boats like mine have. |

We had a 19' Bayliner with a river anchor and it always held. We got the FW this year and it had a fluke that came with it. I was actually very impressed with its performance. Even today, it is holding that tree down to the bottom of Norris Lake ![]() I do like the fact that the Chene does not want a chain- it will keep my cost down if I have to leave it at the bottom of a lake in the future. However, I am counting on that "100% retrievable" feature! We'll see. |
