We have a 268. Trying to install a debth sounder, near centerline under engine. Is this a cored hull in that area and is the bottom cored in general? Sounder does not read unless in water.

I know the transom is, not sure about the hull under water line. Might have to call FW CS and post back what they say.

That is the way a Depth sounder transducer works, It uses water to transmit the sonar signal to the lake's bottom then back up to the transducer, There are some transducers that soke in mineral oil to get the transducer to work as well.

If I were installing a transducer I think I'd rather go for a transom mount just to not have to drill through the hull. I have no idea if that boat is cored or not but FW should be able to tell you. If you do install it make sure you seal the edges of the hole with epoxy and bed the fasteners well in either Boat Life caulk or 3M 4200. I remove the screws on my transom mount every few years and re-bed them to keep water out of the transom....

I'm surprised the 268 didn't have a depth sounder /through hull transducer fitted as standard. If it doesn't, I agree with Lou, I'd be very uncomfortable about drilling a big hole under the waterline !
