BoatU.S. is offering a smart phone app that helps boaters call for a tow and adds location and tracking features. Quote: Jerry Cardarelli, BoatU.S.'s vice president of towing services, in a statement. "The moment you hit the app's 'Call Now for a Tow' button, it automatically provides us with critical information before our crew even answers the phone. We think the app really adds a new layer of comfort and peace of mind," he added. Available for iPhone and Android phones. You know you wouldn't want to use this as a replacement for the DSC function on VHF radios, but for some boats without a VHF radio or GPS, I wonder if this app or similar app could be further used to aid immediate help to a boater in distress as in coast guard notification? Just thinking out loud....... Mike. |
