I belong to another boating forum and there is always talk about which marina is better, how, why, etc... Its more of a local forum, started by folks in the Dallas area.

So, tell us about the marina or ramp you use, why you use it etc...

I use Cottonwood Creek Marina in Little Elm, TX (Lake Lewisville) http://www.cottonwoodcreekmarina.com/website/index.htm

Its easily the cleanest marina on the lake and its 5 minutes from my house. Also, TxVista uses it and has for years. Us coming here with the new boat had a lot to do with his suggestions.

Here are a couple pics:

I have used Duncan Bridge Marina on Smith Lake the last two years. At first they were great but as time went on, it became less and less clean and not maintained as well. It is now under new management and seems better but we have purchased a home in a development that has dry storage and fuel on the property. Duncan Bridge was handy and the people were always friendly and I would recommend them if someone did not live on the lake.

We're at Gingerville Yachting Center in Edgewater, MD http://www.gingervilleyachtingcenter.org and we love it! It's just over a mile from our house, on a perfect spot on the South River, friendly mgt, and it's about the only marina in the area that has a service dept yet still lets you hire oustide mobile marine mechanics to service your boat. Plus, their forklift can handle our Vista 298 so we're out of the water and don't have to worry about that extra maintenance to keep it in the water or pay high fees for a lift slip...needless to say, we're the biggest boat in the racks :D

I use Bayside Marina on Ray Hubbard in Texas because the parking lot is designed for trailers, it's clean, safe and they have a young man that helps me load and unload the boat and will put the trailer in the space first so I can disconnect the truck if I need to make a beer run, they are very cool folks.

I use Cove Ridge on Watauga Lake. It is one of the smaller (read cheaper) marinas on the lake, however they do have 2 year old metal docks, a small (3 person) staff that is very friendly. A fire pit, playground, and swimming area. It is gated (security card access 24 hrs a day), 24 hr video surveillance, hidden from the road and has a huge parking lot (that they are accommodating if you want to leave a trailer/car/whatever there for a day or 2). VERY clean and friendly and if a member's friend wants to launch their boat or hang out and relax they are accommodating to them too. On site wash facility and if you want to pull your boat out of the water (to clean or whatever) heck they will even help you out. They even let me, if I decide to bring my jetski out for a day, let me tie it off to my boat in the slip.

No real "night life" (ie dock parties after hours), and that is both a plus and a minus.

We've been slipping at South Bay for three years. D33.
http://www.southbaymarina.com/
It's clean, and there is a bulitin pool and bar. Free wifi, fuel dock, and full boat service available. The only drawback is distance to downtown Green Bay! Can't wait for Spring!!

We use Bayfront Park marina as far south in Miami and away from everybody else as possible because fights have a tendency to break out at the marinas closer to home, especially on sundays in the summer when everybody all of a sudden wants to use their boat.

I've heard about that place....the manager is pretty nice but I've heard she can turn fast if you piss her off.

Been in Plantation Yacht Harbor in Islamorada FL for quite a while now. Marina is very clean, pumpout at every slip, and attached to Founders Park with beach, sailboat rentals, dog park, amphitheater with great live music on occasion, tennis courts, swimming pool, basketball courts, soccer field, baseball field, etc... etc... This will be our home base for a long long time. The only downside is sometimes we don't feel like driving the boat anywhere because "we're already there"! 8)

Post subject:  Re: Lets talk about YOUR marina (add pics!)

the criteria we took choosing the marina four our boat were:

the closest (maximum 50 minutes drive from home)
the cleanest
that could offer other options beside the place at the dock (children area, a place to stay relaxing under the sun, a BBQ area...)
possibly NO social events or the minimum needed (happy hours, live music parties, common entarteinment events...)
a parking area for cars
winter opening
and last but not least: Not too expansive for a year stay.

We started making selection from the closest and after some turns around we went back to the closest, it's called Cantiere Nautico Sant'Anna it's in the southern most place of the lake at 30 minutes drive from home and every other requirement we had was covered. There's also the gasoline station. 24 hour access with key for the gate. Here some pictures.
