Post subject: | First day of the season |
I finally plan on getting the boat out today. The first trip of the season always gets me a little nervous, batteries, water in the fuel etc. I was wondering if anyone puts a fuel "product" in the first tank of the season to take care of any condensation that may have occurred over the winter. I hear good and bad things about them and was just wondering. Any other first trip advise would be appreciated. |

All I can say is I am Jealous!! ![]() Here in MN, we are looking for the first sign that we might actually have ice coming off the lakes. Been a very long winter. |

I run Sea Foam trough the first tank of gas in everything. Boat, snowmobile, motorcycle, lawn mower, etc... |

I wouldn't worry too much, just fill it up with fresh gas and go boating, every year I winterize the boat and look at the gas in the fuel filter and I have not seen any appreciable level of water in there.... |

She fired right up and ran like a charm, All the dropped goldfish were exactly where the kids left them at the end of the season. Cleaning her up tomorrow when it hits 80. |

what did you hear bad about using stabil on a regular basis.....please advise, cuz i havent heard anything about that issue. I have been using stabil gray for daily use in the boat and all my other engines that aren't constantly run. For long term storage i use the stabil pink. The prob i was worried about - I fill the boat and hit the lake, but if i don't burn the full tank it gets stored for another week, two or three during the summer depending on my work load. My usual habit is to dump the stabil in whenever i add fuel.....i do this cuz i have seen what ethanol can do to a fuel system. |

I do the same, adding Stabil every time I add fuel. We normally go a couple weeks between outings and you never know what might happen in life that can mess up your boating season. With the boat stored an hour away, the fuel sitting in the tank is one less thing for me to worry about. That said, stabilizing the fuel is a different issue than having water in the fuel. |

.... and I only run Stabil (pink) in the last tank of the season. Never had any issues there either. Typically run 3 times a month in the summer, and fill up every other outing. IMO you may be using "excessive" stabil, but you certainly aren't causing any harm. |

I only add the correct amount of Stabil for the amount of fuel added. I'd wait til the end of season too, if I could count on running the boat every weekend. |

Sorry 230Mike, that wasn't pointed at you. If my boat was used infrequently AND stored elsewhere my attitude may be different. Since I store at the house, and fill up at gas stations I use in my car each time I worry less about water intrusion and have fewer "unknowns" if my boat were to suddenly act up. |

No worries Walt, there are definitely people out there whose tanks are full of 50% gas and 50% Stabil because they don't think about what they're doing. |

Since we cannot buy any gas here without ethonal in it. ![]() |
