How many others put their kids to work on the boat? Mine love to clean it so I'm not sure that's technically putting them to work. Though I'm sure one of these days they'll figure it out and it will become a chore rather than something fun for them to do. But as long as they enjoy it, I'll take advantage of it. Especially since my daughter likes to get down and scrub the non-skid...she takes great pride in making all of the non-skid a blinding white.

Me! My son is a great helper when it comes detailing. He's more of a gofer but also helps wiping the polish and wax off. Saves me a lot of work. I honestly couldn't winterize nearly as efficiently without him. Helps to have on the ground while I'm on the boat. He's 13 so good age to be productive.

As posted previously...

He fits under there a lot easier than I do. But I agree, my kids like helping with the boat so I'm not really "making" them do anything.

My son is an awesome help, between all the complaints! He just turned 18 and the threat of waxing it alone is a great behavior modification tool! With his help, I can have her washed, waxed and ready in a weekend. Mechanical whiz he is not. Strong back, he has. He usually feels like the karate kid when he's done....wax on, wax off...good Danielson.

I put mine to work everywhere I can. The philosophy is simple... If they want to reap the benefits of owning a boat, they can help the old man out with the not so fun parts. They, too, are still at the age when it's "fun" to help with the boat. Especially when I let them climb in the ski locker and under seat storage areas to wipe them down. Anytime they are given permission to do something they normal are not allowed to do, it is automatically considered fun. Also, there are plenty of other fun stuff to do at my boat storage place. So they've figured out they eventualy can sneak away to play basketball or football, shoot their bb guns, ride around on the golf cart, etc. I make sure I get a good amount of work out of them before they sneak off.

Kids make good bilge rats.

I'm looking forward to teaching my 2 year old how to clean the spokes on my motorcycle. His small hands will come into good use for sure!

You guys only have it half right. You need to put both your kid(s) and wife to work. We are in the process of sanding the Interlux Performance Epoxy to prepare to apply VC17 anti-fouling paint.

Just yesterday, my wife was scrubbing our swim platform and did a GREAT job of getting it clean. She also scrubbed the cockpit and started on the bow....thats when we got our oldest daughter involved...they scrubbed quite a bit and got the non skid surface looking better. Its not as white as we would like, but its MUCH better. Another round and it will probably be as good as its going to get.

I use a product from Starbrite called Non-Skid Deck Cleaner. I have used this stuff for years on the Non-Skid and have been happy with the results.

I use soft scrub with bleach but you do have to be careful not to to scrub it on the waxed portions.

We stopped by a local store hoping to get Simple Green. They don't carry it but did have a knockoff product call Mean Green and it was great.
