If anyone can help.........PLEASE?? I have a clarion xmd3 radio, it worked perfectly last weekend. Now all of a sudden it acts as if there is no power to it. I have checked and it does have 12v running to the wiring harness. If I push the eject button I can even hear something happen. Does anyone know what is going on with this thing?? If I have to replace, what kind of stereo will work with the same remotes that I have at the swim deck and by the steering wheel?

Thanks in advance!

Check to see if there's a fuse on the back of the unit that's blown. If it makes sound when you hit eject, it sounds like the display is just not lighting.

Looks like there is an illumination connection for that unit. The orange and white wire on the back of the unit. Make sure that connection has 12 volts.

I will check that. It seems strange that neither of the remotes appear to have power either. When I turn on my Nav lights, the back lighting comes on to the remotes. I dont understand why this thing all of a sudden stopped working!!

+1 on the fuse. However, if your getting the back lighting to come on with the navigation lights then I might think the fuse is fine. Possibly could be more like internal damage of some kind. I have a friend thats in the audio business for high end car audio, I'll send him an email and see if I can get some insight for you.

I hate to say this, down load the manual on it. Sometime there is a trouble shooting guide, if not it will give you a clue to how it is wired. I wish I could tell you more!!

+1 to the manual.
It may not be set-up the same, but I do remember having an automotive stereo w/CD player... the CD and Clock/Memory had one power supply, while the main stereo functions had another. Based on that, I would find your wiring diagrams, then check power to both cicuits if applicable. Either way, there is normally a fuse in the back of the head unit.

Is the face removable or pivot when installing/removing CDs??? Could be something simple like that.

Mine's wired so the backlighting for the remotes come direct from the Nav's. That should be the norm.

Don't throw in the towel yet... a little troubleshooting will give you better understanding. You may solve the problem with little or no investment, or replace the stereo.

Thanks for all the help, everyone! I checked the wiring diagram for the radio, I found that there are two wires that require 12v. I have power to the yellow wire which is for memory, but no power to the red wire which is for accessory power. when I put the red wire to the yellow, voila, I have a radio. Can anyone tell me how I get power to the red? It appears as though the yellow wire goes straight to the battery. The red one, I am guessing is from the ignition power (turns on when you turn the key to on position). Could there be something wrong with the ignition? I also, just noticed that the green led light for the FireBoy system is no longer lit. The extinguisher is not discharged, so I wonder if these things arent somehow connected??

The light on my fireboy system wasn't lit when I bought my boat, but it was getting power. I replaced the panel with the light for under $10.

Have you checked your fuses??? Sounds like may just be a single fuse blown, or bad connection. Then again, are any other "accesories" that should come on w/ the ignition switch (if wired that way) working? Could be something related. Try chasing the "yellow" wire back until you find where it should be powered, checking w/ a VOM along the way. You could also disconnect the battery and use the VOM to check for continuity between the stereo harness and power. Could be something pinched, damaged, or just a poor splice.

Best of luck. If this is the case, the fix is cheap, unless you have a swear jar!

I did send my friend an email requesting his help on your behalf. However, I haven't heard from him yet. He travels a bit for work, so he may be out of town. If I talk to him before you get it fixed I'll let you know.

Unless I am misunderstanding, you need to trace the red wire back. As other people have stated, it could be a fuse, or a bad connection. I know at times that is easier said than done. BUT, I would try. With the power off (12v), you could ohm out the wire at different point to see where the break is. IF all else fails, I would run a new wire to the D.C. panel and use a new or the same fuse/breaker at that point. The Fireboy could be on the same fuse or wired in at the same point. Power goes directly from the panel/breaker to the Fireboy light. The fireboy could have lost it's ground too, BUT ground comes from the Fireboy head itself, than come up the the light to complete the circuit. I think it's funny how you lost both at the same time, so I would like at the 12 positive side first.

I checked the Fuse already. It is good at the fuse panel as is the fuse on the back of the stereo. I think I will just pull a new red wire and hook it up to the fuse that is for the radio. Do you see any problems with doing it this way? I wonder that would also power the fireboy by back feeding it through the stereo I am feeding?

I would not try to back feed anything. YES, you could run a new pos. wire, just disconnect the old one. I would trace the fireboy back too. It sounds like you have a bad wire some were, if you do, by back feeding it, it could short it self out to gound.

I guess the question is, should I just run the new positive wire straight to the ignition switch or to the actual fuse panel?
