I wanted to post some pic of the new boat, a V258, but not sure on how to do it. From the "Img" tab, it looks like it needs to be imported from a web site, yes?? I got it a week ago last Friday the 15th, the dealer took us out on what I call a shake down cruise. Last week I took off from work to to get things done on the boat. So far I have removed the old VHF, & GPS. In went the new VHF, fish-finder & GPS. Which took almost 2 days to do. The old GPS was mounted the the center of the helm. Of course, the fish-finder did NOT fit in there like a glove. I used starboard to flush mount it back into the helm. My wife say, "It looks OK". The helm is dark gray, the starboard is white & the fish-finder is a medium gray. If not for the color, it would look great!! I also removed the speedo and installed a Lowrance 400 NMEA 2000 gauge. This will do the same BUT more!! On that week, the wife fell deeper in love with me when I said "Now we install the new arch!" That took a day and a half to do, because I had to make up pads due to the couture of the boat. Now I will mount the VHF antenna, anchor light and hailer on it. I have the new windlass mounted, but it still needs to be wired in. I bottom painted it, but I still need to do the drive. The boat has I built in cooler compartment, I guess you could call it. I pulled it out, moved the hold-downs to the front and now store the fenders there. I still have a lot to do!! Paul |

For some reason the pics will not load to this page. My guess is, the resolution that I took the photos is too high. Below is a link to them, sorry. Anyways, you can see the yellow label still on the new windlass. I still have a lot to do!!! I need to mount the VHF antenna & anchor light on the arch. You have to love a new boat!!! This is true for most brands, so I am not picking on FW. BUT, you just have to love the designers of them!! Case in point, there in no way to shut off the DC power to the fridge. No courtesy lighting in the cabin. No lighting in the engine compartment. No place for a fire extinguisher by the helm and none in the engine compartment!! These are all projects that I need to do now.

I have courtesy lighting in my cabin, and I believe my friends 278 does as well. I added some lights in the engine compartment, wasn't to much money. An auto fire extinguisher in the engine compartment was a factory option...I have it. |

Yep, there is a little knob in side the fridge which will turn it off, also a switch on the Main breaker panel that is often called refrigerator/Charger, that will turn off the DC and AC power to it completely. There is no need to have a separate DC power off switch to the fridge, you control that with the knob inside the fridge itself. Once it's off, no drain on the batteries despite it being hard wired direct to the fridge. We always turned it off when on the hook to conserve battery power overnite. I think the 258 has courtesy lighting that runs along under the shelves in the V berth. our ancient 2000 268 even had them. You need to turn on the switch (labeled "low level lights") to activate them.  The helm fire extinguisher is usually installed on the starboard kick panel inside of the capacity plate under the helm. The Fire Boy Halon system mounts aft of the engine and fits perfectly in a 258, but it is an option you need to order. |

I know about the little knob inside the fridge, thank you!! But I don't want to open the fridge every time to turn it off and on. I guess to that I am spoiled from the last boat!! The thing too is, we do I lot of overnighting on moorings around the Boston Harbor Islands and Cape Cod. To conserve power, I would turn the fridge on & off from the D.C. breaker/switch. Why let the warm air in to do so?? As too "Main breaker panel that is often called refrigerator/Charger, that will turn off the DC and AC power to it completely." I questioned the dealer on this and he said that you need to use the "little knob". Nothing about it controling both AC & DC from the one switch. He warmed me about it switching over and to be careful not to kill the battery. I WILL check it out in the morning but I would be suprused that they would mix AC & DC on one switch. The FireBoy I added today, very simple to do. Along with a A.C. outlet that I will use for a TV & laptop. I came off the outlet in the head 2 feet away on the other side of the wall. My first two boats were Bayliners!! A very solid boat, I had a 24 foot boat LAND ON TOP of my 19 foot cuddie. There was damage, but not as MUCH as you would think! |
