If that had an outboard option, I'd guess they would have sold more.

They dabbled in the salt water fishing market on an off over the years. The 26' Quest with the mid mounted sterndrive is probably the only boat they marketed to that market that was a success.

They also had the Quest center and dual console boats in the late 80s and early 90s.

Then in the mid 90s they had the Coast Runner series that included this 243 and the 203 OB.

They have all had their pros and cons. I think if the 243 had an OB option more people would have been interested in it. I would have that is for sure.

The styling is definitely function over form. Not the prettiest thing that is for sure. However, the weather protection would be great. They basically just bolted a fiberglass hardtop to the 245 Sundowner.

Honestly, if it wasn't all the way in California, I would probably be very tempted to bid. I'll be watching to see what the bid gets to.

It does look exactly like my 245 SD with a hard top bolted on. Well, not exactly like mine, thankfully mine is in better condition than that.
The rear cockpit is set up with a motor box and more room for fishing. My U-wrap takes up all that space.

No easy way to get up on the bow though. Not too easy to anchor, looks like a bow roller was installed, not sure if that was factory, I haven't looked at the old specs before.

From the looks if it in this picture the center window opens to allow passage up to the foredeck. There appear to be steps molded next to the helm. Note the handle up near the top/starboard edge of it:

The lidless toilet right under the seat cushion seems a bit icky. The car-like dashboard is a hoot.

Doesn't seem like a bad little boat. Doesn't scream lots of style, to be sure, but I've certainly seen uglier vessels afloat.

I didn't notice the opening center windshield, that would make sense. My sundowner has the same built in steps and the auto style dash.

That head was pretty gross. Mine has a port-a-potty there. I think a pump out port-a-pottty was an option. I guess you could add a black water tank and do that conversion but I think I'll pass for mine. I'll just move up to a Vista instead of all that work!
