Hi ,Ive now been looking at an inexpensive way to keep my boat warm over the colder months while out in water with family ,on ebay they are selling roadpro 12v 300 watt heaters,I dont know anything about them ,but they appear to be the highest output one I can find on ebay without spending a reasonable amount ,does anyone here have one or know about them? I wouldnt expect they would be powerful enough to heat the boat up exactly ,but maybe take the chill off? also wondering what drain they would have on the batteries as well, rather be cold and running than warm and stranded! lol, thanks guys,Mike |

Well, at 300W and 12V, that is 25 amps of draw on the battery. So, even though it is only 1/5 as hot as a hairdryer (strike 1 against it)it is still producing a fair draw on your battery (if running it without running the engine). Strike 2 against it. Also, I don't think it is a marine rated product, so I would be concerned about it as an ignition source for fumes as well as a shock hazzard around water. Strike 3. We do a fair amount of cool weather boating where we live, and our solution is deploying the canvas to block the wind (we have the factory full canvas) and a huddling up with a warm blanket. There are heater systems out there for boats that use the heated water from the engine circulation system much like your car, but I don't know if that would suit your needs. |
