Post subject:  Storage question.

We decided this year to leave our boat at a marina rather than trailer it back and forth. Its not in the water, but on the trailer in there storage yard with the cover on. Question is do you guys that store your boat outside usually pull the drain plug incase of heavy rains? I heard someone say its a good idea?

I pull the plug everytime I pull mine out of the water. Most of the time there is only a little dribble of water but it better to just get that water out than let it sit. Just dont forget to put the plug back in before you launch!

Yes it did! This is why I was asking. Didn't know if that was just a freak rain storm or if I should pull the plug every time. Forgot to put it in once on our first boat so now I tend to leave it in for that reason. I will start pulling it though.

Any time my boat is on the trailer, the drain plug is out. Ony during winter storrage (when it is indoors) is the plug in. That's to keep the critters out!

I guess that was one reason I was leaving the plug in. Don't want any damn mice in there!

I pull the plug and also raise the trailer tongue to make sure any water will run out the back....

Wrap a piece of wire around the plug and hang it from your steering wheel. Its hard to forget to put it in when it smacks you in the knuckles.

Pull the plug , absolutely!
ON my first boat it had a plug with a diameter of around 2 inches,it was great for washing the boat out. I only left it out once when lauching and it was the quickest retrieve ever. I realised what I had done as the boat was sliding off the trailer and started winching it back up straight away. I still managed to ship around 5 to8 gallons of water in that time. Since then I have never forgotten to put the plug in!!

Yep, pull the plug and make sure the bow is up.

I'll add to the hog pile, pull the plug. Minnesota actually has made it illegal to transport your boat with the plug in it. Trying to fight off invasive species being transfered from lake to lake.
