Well the good new is that we put on over 6 hours of boating this past weekend. So, according to the owners manual I can pretty much do as I wish with the power. SOOO, it was now time to do a WOT run and see how she runs out. The only problem is that after setting full power and trimming for maximum RPM, I could only get it to hit 4950 RPM's maybe I even hit 5000 RPM's even. If I recall, the manual says I should hit 5300 RPM with a Merc 350 Mag/bravo I drive with OEM prop. Now In all honesty I really don't know how much horse power I'm loosing in that 300 RPM's and it's really not important considering Im not trying to set a speed record. However, what is important is my wanting to know WHY?? What could be the problem? Im guessing it's within the rigging of the throttle and can easily be addressed when I take it in for it 20 hour inspection. Are there any problems running the boat with a bad throttle adjustment? I wouldn't think so, but I thought I would pose these questions to the pro's.

Hopefully after 6 hrs, you've run a fresh tank of go-juice through it? Mine won't hit WOT RPMs until about the 2nd fill-up of the season. Only about 4900-5000 before, that is why I mention it. How are you loaded??? 6 peeps and full gas could cause the same loss of RPM due to load, but with just you and 1/2 gas, should be right at, or slightly over 5200 RPM.

Otherwise, normally the reason would be incorrect prop for your drive ratio. I wouldn't consider throttle cable/adjustment a likely issue. If you can't yourself, have the dealer check on the 20 hr... with EFI, should be a TPS, and should be able to check even with the engine off if it is going "full-swing".

At the time of the WOT event ( which was fun btw) :D :D :shock: there was myslef 175 lbs and three little ones ranging from 50 lbs to 70 lbs and a touch over 1/2 tank. I'll mention to the dealer what you had said regarding the EFI and that. Thanks for the advice.


Also, I guess although its "broke in" doesn't necessarily mean "fully" broke in.

You might want to get a few more hours on the motor before running it wide open. Give it a chance to break in. Get the 20 hour service & oil changed. At that point I'd see what see will do.

What elevation? I live at 5000 feet. At my "home" lake I can only get around 4600 rpm. When we travel to lake powell which is at 3650 ish feet elevation I gain around 300-400 rpm. Lack of oxygen makes a big difference.
Anyway, those numbers in the manual or from the dealer are at sea level.

my thought exactly on the elevation - that may be the issue plus the break in hasn't been reached. Are you saying you have hrs total on that motor? ON a new motor break in i wouldnt push WOt UNTIL 20 hrs = even then its only to run it up and back down immediately...i know you got a merc, but i was told 70 hours for total break in on the VP and that was the time to start running synthetic oil.

He is in Michigan. I can say with confidence he is below 1000 ft. Likely he is around 700 ft.

There is very little difference between that and sea level.
