It's always sad to see stuff like this happen when it could have been prevented. I don't know the circumstances around this, only based on the article. Pulling a tube at speed through concrete pillars under a bridge...the adults should have known better and the teen has to live with this.
A 29-year-old Eau Claire man died Saturday afternoon after a tubing accident on Lake Holcombe, Chippewa County Sheriff James Kowalczyk said.
The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
According to the sheriff’s department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Warden Scott Bowe:
The accident was reported at 2:54 p.m. Saturday. A 14-year-old was driving a boat with three adult passengers, pulling a tube that had an adult male.
The boat was navigating through the pillars under County M, just north of Holcombe Dam, when the tube hit one of the concrete pillars.
The tuber and the boat occupants were assisted to East Bay Resort by other boaters.
The injured tuber was pronounced dead at the scene by the Chippewa County coroner.
The accident is being investigated by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, which is being assisted by the sheriff’s department recreation division.
The Cornell Fire Department and EMS and a Life Link air ambulance assisted at the scene.
Sunday's Herald will have more details about the fatal accident.
